It's such a wonderful gesture to see the Giants give Kevin Correia his first major league complete game shutout. Thanks for the memories, Kevin!

Kidding aside, I’d give up the roster flexibility to get Zito out of this game. If he stays in, it’s highly unlikely you’re going to be in the position where a defensive sub will matter

Y'know what's sad?
Coming into today’s game, Zito had a 4.43 ERA and 1.37 WHIP – and this may well end up being the best season we get out of that whole contract.

Just sayin
I know the Giants are playing well lately, but its things like this (not finishing a sweep) that make me think Bochy is a fucking terrible manager. I know managers don’t have a huuuge impact on the game, but I remember watching the 49ers under Mike Nolan and then now under Singletary and seeing a BIG difference in the way they play. It seems like a manager should have his team ready to play in a game like this.

Not true, you judge him by the decisions he can make...
- lineup
- when to pull pitchers
- when to pinch hit etc.
He can do a bad job when they win and a good job when they lose…
Right. Judge his actions. Not “how the team looks on the day before the all-star break” or whatever.

So how does everyone feel now about MelonHead giving up on this game by leaving Zito in well passed the time it was obvious he was getting hammered?
Fine
Long game for the pen yesterday, and they could use a nice long ASB.

Who are you? Are you aware of my posting history? The ASB is always 3 days. Some teams have an off-day afterward. Who fucking cares?
You’re acting like it’s the end of the world because Bochy didn’t pull Zito earlier. Whatever. It’s a long season and with the pen used heavily yesterday, Big Head likely wanted Zito to eat some innings. It’s a good thing to give the team some extended rest over the ASB, especially for the pen, which will be relied on more heavily as the team comes down the stretch.

I don’t want trouble…my apologies if I have offended you. We disagree here but who really cares it really isn’t that important.
I’ve only been posting here for a couple of weeks. I really enjoy the knowledge of the posters here versus the inane babble on many of the other forums.
Go Giants!
That’s fine. It’s really a question of whether Bochy needs to pull the starter at the first sign of trouble, aka treat every game like a playoff game, and I disagree that midseason games should be played that way.
It’s a reasonable disagreement.

They will be more rested. Whether they need to be is a different story.
Baseball is a long season. The manager can’t just pull the starter at the first signs of trouble all year – that’s a good way to wreck the pen.
by North Side Chicago Expatriate Giants Fan on Jul 12, 2009 2:39 PM PDT up reply actions
eh
the game was lost at the E-Alf homer. ’til then every manager in the league leaves him in.
I'd say 98%, there are one or two managers with balls that would have pulled him after it
was clear at the start of the third that he was going to get lit up.
I could see it, you could see, I know Bochy and Rags knew it was coming as well.
Slightly OT
Not rooting for it, but witht he rain a factor in today’s Futures Game, wouldn’t it be kind of funny/fitting if the All-Star Game got rained out completely?
That would be kind of cool

With Broxton out of the All-Star Game, the Dodgers now have two players on the roster – Billingsley and Hudson. So even the team with the best record in baseball has less than half the All Stars as the Phillies.
