I have never been more proud..

I don't make fanposts often, and I know there are going to be a zillion of em about Sanchez' performance tonight, but I just wanted to say I've never been more proud to be a Giants fan (probably because I'm still only 21) because

tonight I talked to people I haven't talked to in years.. Because of Sanchez.

Tonight, I talked to my dad on the phone for the longest time in my life.. Because of Sanchez.

Tonight, I actually had Dodger fans jealous of my team.. Because of Sanchez.

Tonight, I watched (and will continue to watch) hours of ESPN because I know they for once they will talk positively of my team.. Because of Sanchez.

And tonight, I finally feel like I was apart of history.. Because of Sanchez.

Jonathan Sanchez is a name we will remember for the rest of our lives now. I had to work tonight, and only got to see the bottom of the seventh, and the top of the eighth. I will be wallowing in the highlights for this whole weekend.

This shit is why I love baseball.

also, I feel absolutely awful for Juan Uribe. He made an error in what turned out to be a scoreless inning. Most any other game, and it’s forgotten as soon as the Giants come up to bat. It was NOT an easy hop. Yeah, it’s a play you hope your 3B makes, but it happens. It was just a ruefully unfortunate coincidence.

Still…JONATHAN SANCHEZ, SAN FRANCISCO GIANTS PITCHER, PITCHED A NO-HITTER.

Amazing.

When he came in in the top of the inning, I was thinking I wouldv’e left pablo in, but he probably came out for a rest in a blowout or something. Then came the error a few minutes later. But nothing will distract me from my glow of happiness.

I think Pablo came out because Bochy was just trying to get the best possible defense in there for Sanchez’ benefit. Earlier in the year he pulled Pablo a few times for Uribe for defensive purposes. He feels that Frandsen at second and Uribe at third is better than Uribe at second and Pablo at third. Pablo has really improved his defense though, and Bochy was obviously better off leaving things alone. You can’t really fault him for trying though.

Well, we don’t know that Pablo would have made the play. If alternate scenarios is just a way to get a second chance, then it makes just as much sense to put Aurilia in there. I think Uribe was a sensible choice.

The scorer got lucky that after failing to glove it, Uribe also failed to barehand the ball. If he grabbed it then and the throw was late, it’s a much murkier scoring call.

After some sleep, I’ve come to forgiven Uribe. I can’t bring myself to hate him without ignoring what a lifesaver he’s been for us thus far in 09. One of the more universally panned off-season moves this Spring, I’m sure we’d all take that E5 if we knew Uribe would be productive in the first half of the season. Sure it’s unfortunate it came in a perfect game bid, but there’s way too many positives of that game and this season to dwell on a small blemish.

Bad decision by Bochy

Timing groundballs at 2b is very different from balls at 3b. The angle, speed, and perspective differences are night and day. At 3b you have to make a very quick decision on whether to charge a ball and catch it before the short-hop or back up and let the ball come to you. 2B is mush easier because you have a lot more time to make the decision, and if you freeze a bit in the beginning then you still have time to make up for it and get the out (unless it’s a slowly hit ball and a fast runner). I would always hesitate to move a guy that just played 6 innings at 2B, and had been playing almost exclusively at 2b recently, to 3B unless the regular 3B was just a horrible defender. I just don’t get what Bochy was thinking since IMO Pablito makes that play with ease and Sanchez has the perfect game.

On the play last night you can see that Uribe hesitated, then started to charge, and thus got into a position of fielding it between hops. Contrary to what many have said it wasn’t a bad hop, it was a true hop that he should have just taken a step back on and had an easy catch at eye level and he still would have had plenty of time to throw him out at first.

um panda was taken out because of back spasm, not because Bochy felt like doing it.

by jctGamer on Jul 12, 2009 12:29 AM PDT up reply actions

Juat read Baggs’s post about Panda. It seems that Panda still has some soreness from the home plate collision earlier in the week, and that’s why Bochy took him out of the game early. So I’ll cut Bochy some slack on this, since he really had nobody else but Uribe to put on 3B with Panda out. I don’t consider Aurilia a good D at 3B at this stage in his career – another good reason to DFA him.

It’s not just this no hitter that makes you proud to be a Giants’ fan this year. With that pitching staff and Pablo Sandoval, there’s going to be a lot of bandwagon fans joining us this season.

Kudos to Jonathan Sanchez and his no hitter vs the Padres. Maybe the Mets should trade David Wright to SF, they need hitting,,nice city to live in , alots of beautiful west coast women,,and put David out of his misery,,,if you love David Wright so much set him free as Sting says in his song,,hahaha

Who knew before the game that Jonathan and his dad would make us cry? It is for these moments that we endure the other drama. This is our payoff.

Yeah

rxmeister said it best in the game thread — this was more impressive than a perfect game because he had to get 28 outs, not 27. Also, guys who pitch perfect games don’t have to pitch out of the stretch. Jonathan had to for the first time in the 8th (through no fault of his own), and struggled with it, yet still never allowed a hit or walk.

I’ve seen Matt Cain, Shawn Estes, and Jason Schmidt throw 1-hitters, Schmidt K 16, and Lincecum dominate time and again. I even listened to a game where Kelly Downs faced the minimum 27 batters. But this is by far the best game a Giants has pitched since I’ve been a fan. Add that it was Sanchez and not Cain or Lincecum, that he’d been demoted to the bullpen and was only pitching due to an injury (to a Hall of Famer no less), hadn’t pitched 9 innings total in 3 weeks, had never had a complete game, and had his dad watching him start for the first time in the big leagues, and it starts to sound more like a tall tale than an actual memory.

Kudos, this post sums up a lot of feelings. I had purchased a group of games in February based on the initial starting rotation, this game being the last game for me before the break. I’d like to think it’s kismet that I got to see Jonathan throw a no-no on this ticket.
