Opinions about Garrett Atkins?

"The Giants aren't getting much production from Travis Ishikawa at the plate, though the plus/minus system ranks him as the best defensive first baseman in the league. Verducci wonders if the Giants would use Jonathan Sanchez to acquire a player such as Jorge Cantu, Nick Johnson, Miguel Tejada or Garrett Atkins."

What do you think about trying to acquire Garrett Atkins? Is he over the hill, or just slumping this year and disinterested in a team that is going nowhere? I think he's worth the gamble and he's only 28... Sanchez for Atkins straight up?

Reminds me of someone

Matt Holliday posting his worst numbers of his career with Oakland:

.279/.378/.452

Although I think he might be picking it up lately.

That said, I would trade Sanchez, Fred (sorry!), and a minor leaguer not named Tim, Madison, Angel, etc. for Holliday, as long as we could get him locked up beyond this season.

I think it just took Holliday a while to adjust to the pitching in a whole new league. Hitting .344, OPS of 1.017 the last month. I still hope his price on the free agent market has fallen enough for the Giants to consider him after the season

Yeah

It’s probably best to go that route than the trade one, with him at least. I like Jonathan Sanchez, but I KNOW he is gone soon. I like Fred too, but management clearly doesn’t.

On a Fred-related (perhaps) note, I think I’ve had enough of Carney Lansford. I was on the bandwagon. Now, not-so-much.

Yeah, I’d still sign the hell out of that guy. That is, if we are still operating under last year’s free agent financials.

Merkin Valdez? Manuel Mateo? A rose by any other name...

Drats!!!

If the hell’s going to be signed out of him, then fer sure he’d go to the Angels!

How bout him for Aurilia then. Please Rockies? Please!

Adding Atkins wouldn’t really help with our production problems.

No

Aaron King is still my homeboy... iffy mechanics and all

If Dustin Pedroia played in Seattle, not many people would be talking about him.

I would take him if the Rockies are giving him away, but there is no way I would trade Sanchez for him

I would trade Grant for Atkins.

Bruce Bochy would like you to look at the career numbers and stop complaining.

If the Rockies are mostly interested in salary relief, then maybe there is a fit. Otherwise, no.

Wouldn’t this be like trading Sanchez for Bowker?

I’m looking forward to the “who could we trade Wheeler for” postings. Especially the ones in his first year.

Cantu is the only one on that list I would even consider.
