IDK HOW I SHOULD BE RESPONDING!!11111!!`
is he on the level of Bum or Alderson?

I’d say he’s a pretty similar level prospect as Bumgarner was when he was drafted. He’s higher rated than Alderson was at the time.

Wheeler says he wants to sign quickly.
We hold these truths to be self-evident, that pie > cake, that Bochy is endowed by his creator with certain undeniable traits, that among these are veteran man-love, a gigantic skull, and the pursuit of the double switch.

Alright, I’ll learn to love him, but mild boo. Now to root for Matzek to ruin his elbow in a bar fight or something.

Two years late
Drafting pitching itself is not a problem. But it’s a problem if the best you can get in trade is A.J. Pierzynski and Shea Hillenbrand.

Very good Selection
I had a slight preference for Matzek but there’s not a huge amount of difference between them. Wheeler’s a very solid pick there so i’m happy!
Proud parent of Waldis Joaquin!
But Wheeler (supposedly) wants to sign, so maybe they were hesitant to break the bank on Matzek and they’re gonna spend it on Wagner Mateo…

I am A-ok with this pick. Maybe I would’ve preferred Matzek or Crow slightly, but this was definitely one of the top-notch pitching prospects out there (and I kinda had a gut feeling that he would be our guy given all the Matzek talk).
Random question: Does the selection of another young RHP increase the likelihood that Alderson could be part of a trade for a young bat?

There’s so many signability picks & overdrafts that it’s quite ridiculous. Sanchez, Hopgood, Minor, Leake, etc. There’s going to be some seriously happy teams coming up.

I don’t think they do, normally, but when one of the really special guys is known to be there the next season, I wouldn’t be surprised if it happens. If Harper is going to be there next year and the Nats and some other team are neck and neck, you don’t see them trying a little less hard?
by positiveuphemism on Jun 9, 2009 3:56 PM PDT up reply actions
Nope
Keeping a roster spot on a big league team is too precious to expect players to try less hard to keep it.

it's not just you
i read somewhere that the writers had originally planned to kill him off early, but then liked the job matthew fox was doing so they decided to keep him alive. i wonder if that’s why— maybe they just didn’t have a plan for him as a character and so had to sort of make one up more on the fly?

NO NO NO
They planned to kill him off during the first episode, but then rewrote the whole show when they realized they weren’t going to do that.
They had done no writing when that decision was made. I guarantee that any dissatisfaction you feel over Jack’s character is unrelated to the outline of a script they never wrote.

if they are really going to have to give Strasberg a ton of money, I can see why they wouldn’t want to give Matzek 7 on top of that. That said, I think they could have made a better choice than Storen.
Matt Cain: He'll save children, but not the Dodger children.

Their pick was unprotected from the guy not signing. They HAD to take someone who will sign. I’m not sure why that’s hard for people to understand. It’s not like Storen is a terrible prospect.

I'm shocked
The A’s are going to pay big money to Green and Boras? Cause that is what Green said he wanted, he wanted a lot of green to sign, that’s the signal when Boras is your agent. Maybe the A’s think they can get a better player in next year’s draft? While screwing with Boras by not seriously negotiating to get Green?

After seeing the Matzek interview, kind of glad the G’s didnt pick him up. The kid looks like a total a-hole. The Dominguez and Joseph picks are quality as well. Nice job Giants.
