Ishikawa to miss AZ series. Who you gonna call (up)?
In today's Giants Notes in the SF Chron was this:
Travis Ishikawa will go on bereavement leave today and miss the Arizona series to attend his paternal grandfather's funeral in Los Angeles. The Giants will summon a replacement from the minors
So who gets a little big league time in his absence?
- Bowker - He fills the LH bat role at play 1B, if you want to call it that. Dude's been hitting, too.
- Guzman - Everyone's own personal Jesus has been Fresno's most consistent hitter. He didn't get of a chance last time up. (As his father, maybe I should have complained to the coach like parents do in Little League.)
- Frandsen - Will the squeaky wheel get the grease?
- Someone else? A reliever would not be out of the question since the team has played so many games without a break and have more to go.. The rain delays didn't help.

My only problem with this is given Bochy’s track record, Bowker would just rot on the bench while he’s here. If we just call up Frandsen, maybe he would at least play 3b

Pablo is only playing 1B because he’s got a bum elbow. Perhaps it’s sound enough for him to move back to 3B, but we haven’t heard anything about it.

I really think they’re just not liking Ishikawa and want to give Uribe more playing time.
by AmorVincitOmnia on Jun 9, 2009 12:33 PM PDT up reply actions 0 recs
Odd timing then
Ishikawa’s OPS was much over 1.000 for the prior 2-3 weeks at the time they did that. Neither Pablo nor Uribe has been hitting that since the switch.

Actually
Bochy noted yesterday that Pablo is ready to play 3B or C, if needed, in an extra inning game situation. So he’s getting better, almost there if he can play there in limited play, particularly catcher.

Call up Bowker
And stick him in LF for the series. See if his hot bat (seriously, his numbers in Fresno are tremendous) can inspire the rest of the offense for the weekend.
Frandsen needs to be traded. As long as Burriss hits .250 at 2b, they’ll keep him there.

Please clarify “can play SS”, because his AFL stats would beg to differ at this point
by Fresburg on Jun 9, 2009 1:06 PM PDT up reply actions 0 recs
His AFL stats don’t faze me. He can play SS. The question is, can he hit? He definitely can’t hit enough to play 2B, so of course that’s where the Ginats Brasz has him playing. Could he hit enough to play SS? Maybe…depends on how the other hitters are hitting. Probably not with this group, but then that opens up a whole new can of worms.
Strictly baseball-wise, we should be starting:
C – Molina, with Holm backing up
1B – Ishikawa, with Guzman filling in
2B – Frandsen, with Downs backing up all INF
SS – Burriss
3B – Pablo
LF – Bowker
CF – Rowand/Winn
No Renteria, no Burriss, no Richie (sorry, buddy, and thanks for the memories)
RF – Schierholtz/Torres

Release Aurilia, send Burris down, call up Frandsen and Bowker, Sit at least one of Lewis/Rowand/Winn over each of the next three games, give Bowker/Schierholtz/Torres at least one start each. Frandsen should start all three games.
Since 99% of that isn’t likely to happen, call up Frandsen, have him start at SS or second base all three games, giving Burris and Renteria at least one day off during the series. When they do play, bat either one of them ninth.
