minor lines, 6/8/09
The highlights on a night when two of the Giants' four full-season affiliates had the day off: (a) Kevin Frandsen had three hits to keep his AVG above .500 over his last nine games; (b) Ben Woodbury also had three hits, to like Frandsen keep his AVGo comfortably above .300; and (c) Andrew Reichard had six shutout innings in his first start of the season.
AAA: Fresno lost to Salt Lake 5-3
Fresno: SS Kevin Frandsen: 3 for 5, 2B
Fresno: DH Joe Borchard: 1 for 3, HR, BB, 2 SO
Salt Lake: RF Terry Evans: 2 for 4, HR, BB, 2 SO, SB
Salt Lake: CF Sean Rodriguez: 1 for 5, HR, 3 SO
Fresno: RHP Kevin Pucetas: 4.0 IP, 9 H, 5 R, 5 ER, 1 BB, 6 K--2 HR, 1 WP, 1 E
Fresno: LHP Alex Hinshaw: 2.0 IP, 2 H, 1 BB, 4 K
Fresno: RHP Ramon Ortiz: 1.0 IP, 2 K
Frandsen has had multiple hits in seven of nine games since being sent back to Fresno. He has an AVG above .500 during that time, and tonight he accounted for over half of the Grizzlies' five hits. Borchard had his 3rd HR in ten PCL games. The Angels' Rodriguez homered again, his 21st HR. Evans added his 13th HR and his 13th SB.
Making his eleventh start, Pucetas had perhaps his worst start of the year. It was his shortest start of the year as he matched a season high with 5 ER, raising his ERA nearly a half run to 3.75. Hinshaw and Ortiz combined to strike out six of the thirteen batters they faced in the final three innings.

They also now have 12 and 9 SBs, respectively. The Mets' 17-year-old Marte has generally struggled this year with a sub-.600 OPS, but he had his 4th HR tonight.

Augusta's infield is not too great, lot of bad hops
I read that somewhere, can anybody confirm this?

Perez shows signs of being an interesting hitter. Too bad he can’t take a walk.
We hold these truths to be self-evident, that pie > cake, that Bochy is endowed by his creator with certain undeniable traits, that among these are veteran man-love, a gigantic skull, and the pursuit of the double switch.
Adopted Giant: Fred Lewis, who can still draw a walk.
Maybe he knows that if he has too many walks, the Giants will never let him make it to the majors.

I’m not a stathead, but why not put Frandsen at short, or move Burris there to make space at 2b for him? Renteria is a bust, period- and will only decline further in the future. Burris deserves more time to develop and has upside. I know this will never happen, but does it make any sense?
Choppin' broccoli
it did seem odd that when Franny was called up, he played SS and Burriss played 2b. However, the team, because of MONEY, will not bench Renteria. they just won’t.

Olive Odle was called up to Fresno. I don’t know if he’s going to be starting or in the bullpen or what. I’m awaiting word on his status/role with the Grizzlies and if he’s expected to stick there.

When I saw, “Olive Odle was called up,” I thought for a second you meant he was taking Ishikawa’s spot while he’s on the bereavement list, and that was a major WTF moment.

other minor league moves
C/DH Adam Witter is back in Connecticut
SS Juan Ciriaco back to Fresno
IF Matt Downs was activated and played last night for the first time in a week. I believe he had some sort of injury.
I also noticed that it looks like the team assigns players to the AZL Giants temporarily sometimes when moving them between levels. interesting.

that’s sorta what I figured, especially since the AZL season hasn’t started yet. The SJ Giants site does say extended spring training. But I see that they do it for like a day, which makes me think that it is some sort of transaction limbo, but the players don’t necessarily go there.

It would be a logistical inconvenience to do that to a player as he changes levels.
