Great, now we have to sit through another Renteria at bat.
We hold these truths to be self-evident, that pie > cake, that Bochy is endowed by his creator with certain undeniable traits, that among these are veteran man-love, a gigantic skull, and the pursuit of the double switch.

I’m reminded of one time in Little League, I was up with two out and a runner on. He was picked off base, ending the inning. The next inning, I went to go to bat again, and nobody else believe that you start your at bat to begin the next inning. I WUZ ROBBED.

I had a worse one once
I hit a triple – a real, legit, triple to the gap, not a Little League comedy hit that gets thrown away four times….
….and then the doofus teenage umpire disallowed the play and called me back to the batters box. Why? Because he didn’t have his mask on yet when the pitcher threw.
I ended up striking out. :(
It was probably the best hit I ever got in Little League, too. Bathturds.

Nah, this was in the middle of an inning, as I recall. He had taken off his mask to adjust it or something between hitters, and the pitcher threw the first pitch too quick before he put it back on.

by Bond16 on Jun 7, 2009 6:28 PM PDT up reply actions 0 recs
there are pitchers out there who are effective with 85 mph fastballs. wakefield is just an extreme example. if you can have ONE guy who throws that slow and is effective then its pretty goddamned obvious command>velocity.
although wakefields command isn’t that great…
by quincy0191 on Jun 7, 2009 6:29 PM PDT up reply actions 0 recs
Wakefield is not an example of a pitcher who is effective with an 85 MPH fastball. He’s effective with a 65 MPH knuckler and throws an 80 MPH fastball every 100 starts.
Yes there are pitchers out there who are effective with 85 MPH, but most of them are in the later stretches of their careers and have learned how to pitch over about 10 seasons.

Moyer’s in the upper 70’s/low 80’s. Zito’s actually back up to the mid/high-80’s now, so velocity isn’t that much of a knock for him.
Semi-proud adoptive father of Scott Barnes.
by boonitez on Jun 7, 2009 6:32 PM PDT up reply actions 0 recs
Moyer is about 81 this year. One thing though, he only throws his fastball ~40% of the time. He doesn’t rely on it like Wilson. Wilson’s around 70%.
Zito is not better than Wilson.
