Kyle Gibson has a stress fracture
This is obviously really bad news and awful timing for the kid. It will be interesting to see how far he falls in the draft (right now he's easily a top 10 pick and almost certainly top 5) and how it moves things around. It could hurt the Giants chances at getting Tyler Matzek.

Whoa. Does he fall into the second round? Please?
Cain had a stress fracture when he was a teenager, and he was fine. I wonder if it’s the same bone.

If the injury is as minor as the article suggest, it could be a blessing in diguise.
Bad enough to keep his arm from getting chewed up in the NCAA postseason, minor enough that he’s ready to make a couple starts at the end of the minor league season.

I don’t think he will end up falling all that far, I think at worst he will get picked by one of the rich teams (Cubs, Yankees, Red Sox, etc.) at the end of the first round.

I'm not sure why Gibson is considered the "safe" pick of this draft
he doesn’t have overpowering stuff, and has put up very mediocre numbers in college
2008—→4.12 ERA
2009—→3.84 ERA

for a metal bat league, those numbers are far from mediocre.

I think his injury hurts the Giants’ chances of getting Tyler Matzek, who will likely slide up the board to either San Diego or (more likely) Baltimore. I’m not at all happy about this development. Somebody point me towards DrB’s stairs……
