Because he's our fifth starter

With a ton of potential. Regardless of whether he reaches that potential or not, he’s our fifth starter. And he’s an above average one.

That, and he gets a bit of a pass because of how he was treated earlier in his career.

Also, he’s done pretty damn well for a 27th round pick. I was looking at a list of all the players taken that round, and I don’t think any of others have even made the majors, let alone been somewhat useful.

You can’t relly look at just 27th rounders in that situation. You have to look at all people drafted there or after because truly, that’s pretty much thought to be the same talent level.

I remember watching a Marlins game in their first season – which was 1992, I think? Or 1991. Anyway, there was a rain delay, the first in team history, and the grounds crew clearly had never practiced putting the tarp over the field. They were all falling down all over the place, one side of the tarp started blowing away, wind got under it and sent the middle of the tarp billowing up, and so on. It took them a good 15-20 minutes to get it over the infielder properly, as I recall. Comedy.

sac fly question

how come a batter doesn’t take an 0 for 1 if he hits a sac fly that scores a runner, but he does if he hits a sac fly that moves a runner from 2nd to 3rd base or 1st to 2nd base?

I realize the difference is that in one instance, a run scores, but they each advance a runner 90 feet, so why would they otherwise be treated differently?

just wondering.

Ramon Ortiz! Steve Hammond! Pat Misch!

We hold these truths to be self-evident, that pie > cake, that Bochy is endowed by his creator with certain undeniable traits, that among these are veteran man-love, a gigantic skull, and the pursuit of the double switch.
Adopted Giant: Fred Lewis, who can still draw a walk.

I look at it more like he needs to start showing me NOW why there shouldn’t just be an open competition between him and Bumgarner for the spot next year.

Funny thing, though: the Giants have won 4 of Sanchez’s 10 starts, and 5 of Zito’s 11. Not a big difference by that measure.

Compare runs scored in those games, Zito has had tough luck, but Sanchez seems to always blow a lead in his starts
