yes of course
This is the springtime of my loving-
The second season I am to know
You are the sunlight in my growing-
So little warmth Ive felt before.
It isnt hard to feel me glowing-
I watched the fire that grew so low.
Easily one of my favorite Zeppelin songs
Krazy Krab despised in the 20th century and beloved in the 21st century. Hey it only took over 20 years, so don't give up hope.
Thank you for not saying “by far one of my favorite.” That construction annoys me.
We hold these truths to be self-evident, that pie > cake, that Bochy is endowed by his creator with certain undeniable traits, that among these are veteran man-love, a gigantic skull, and the pursuit of the double switch.
Adopted Giant: Fred Lewis, who can still draw a walk.
Can’t beat it live when they were playing it after The Song Remains The Same. Plant’s scream that just fades away into the first notes of it. Amazing.

His voice is horrible now. He really ruined it around 72-73 too. Shame, if he’d learned to control it earlier in his career his voice could have still had the same wailing later in his career.
At their O2 reunion gig most of the songs even had to be tuned down for him to hit any notes.

He’s been pretty quietly solid since his bad stretch a month ago or so.

PABLO SANDOVAL AM STEAL DEATH, DESTROYER OF WORLDS.
But I think he could be better. He does better than I might expect at this point because of his speed, but once he figures out the brain part of the game, he could be really good.
It's my blarg! Quick Pitch
He’s 28, and has been playing the OF forever. He’s not figuring anything out. I think the sooner people stop thinking about what he could be, the sooner they’ll manage to appreciate what he is.

I am not sold on Lewis. The tools are there. The baseball skills are not.
by Lars The Wanderer on Jun 5, 2009 7:16 PM PDT up reply actions
He’s a career .284/.362/.431 hitter. I’m pretty it takes some sirious baseball skills to do that.
Adoptive parent of Noah Lowry.

Those are meh numbers from LF. Especially the SLG
by Lars The Wanderer on Jun 5, 2009 7:22 PM PDT up reply actions
It’s average for a LF. And Lewis adds a bit with his defense and baserunning. His numbers are pretty similar to Sandoval’s, really, and I don’t hear anyone claim that he doesn’t have baseball skills.
Adoptive parent of Noah Lowry.
:-(
I am not convinced that his defense adds anything.
by Lars The Wanderer on Jun 5, 2009 7:29 PM PDT up reply actions
His baserunning either for that matter
by Lars The Wanderer on Jun 5, 2009 7:30 PM PDT up reply actions
Here is what I agree with
There are 21 leftfielders that have a higher SLG than Lewis amongst those with enough bats to qualify
by Lars The Wanderer on Jun 5, 2009 7:34 PM PDT up reply actions
I do not trust the defensive metrics used to calculate player worth. I believe Lewis is way overrated by all metrics used to measure defense.
by Lars The Wanderer on Jun 5, 2009 7:38 PM PDT up reply actions
In the larger sample size of last season, 11 LF were better than Lewis in OBP. 13 were better in SLG.
by Lars The Wanderer on Jun 5, 2009 7:41 PM PDT up reply actions
He is meh. The Giants don’t have anyone better right now so will do for now. hey should not consider Lewis a solution at LF.
by Lars The Wanderer on Jun 5, 2009 7:43 PM PDT up reply actions
Lewis is league average. Can was agree on that (he’s league average offensively, and I still don’t understand if you disagree with my comment about his defense). Positions at which the Giants do not project to have a leage average player last year: 1B, 2B, SS, RF, C. All much bigger problems than LF.
Adoptive parent of Noah Lowry.
:-(
It isn’t the biggest concern, but it is a concern and it shouldn’t be ignored.
To be honest, his defense sucks. Anyone willing to overlook his lack of instincts that are hiding behind his speed is fooling themselves. He isn’t going to be fast forever and is already having problems with his feet.
by Lars The Wanderer on Jun 5, 2009 7:51 PM PDT up reply actions
He has speed now. In the outfield speed can get you a lot more outs.
Carlos Lee basically catches everything hit to him, but I doubt anyone would argue he’s a better outfielder than Lewis.
Randy Winn is going to catch that. And he'll do it real classy-like too.
And by the way, “his defense sucks because he’s going to lose his speed” isn’t even a logical argument. If you’re saying that he’s an average player now but won’t be in the future, that’s something else. What will happen to his speed in the future is irrelevant to how good he is now.
Adoptive parent of Noah Lowry.
:-(
I give - you win
He is awesome. I’d rather watch the game.
by Lars The Wanderer on Jun 5, 2009 8:05 PM PDT up reply actions
Right. Because I just forced you into this discussion. Look, we disagree. That’s OK. No need to make it look like I’m being a dick for sticking with my argument.
Adoptive parent of Noah Lowry.

Fine. We disagree. I am glad you’re OK with it.

Those are meh numbers from LF. Especially the SLG
This was my point when this discussion started.
by Lars The Wanderer on Jun 5, 2009 7:44 PM PDT up reply actions
If meh = average, OK. Otherwise, I don’t get why you think that. And your original point was that he doesn’t have baseball skills.
Adoptive parent of Noah Lowry.
:-(
Here is what I think: Lewis is not a prospect. People shouldn’t look at Lewis and think, “Well, he will get better”. He isn’t going to get better. What we see is what we are going to get.
Meh = not great but it will do for now. As I said, there really isn’t anyone on the roster better right now. But Fred shouldn’t be considered the LF of the future.
