“Matzek may be using his latissimus dorsi to internally rotate his arm instead of using his pectoralis major to horizontally flex his arm.”
Oh shut up; you had me at “Matzek.”
Sergio Romo: striking out professional hitters since 2005. And winner of the 2012 NL Fireman of the Year Award!
The thing is, no one actually knows what that means for injuries (including Dr. Marshall or the article author). They sure talk like they do, but they don’t, and they have no evidence otherwise. Violent deliveries, odd mechanics, and any of those doctor words don’t predict pitcher injuries. Probably the most important thing to avoid injuries is a repeatable delivery, but even that is speculation.
Proud father of Juan Carlos Perez. Think Albert Pujols at second.
Don't confuse injury prevention with injury prediction.
Any sports orthopaedist or physical therapist can tell you about what body actions lead to injuries.
They can tell you these things because there’s an unbelievable amount of evidence to support them despite your claim that “they have no evidence.” Countless anatomical, kinesiological, and biomechanical studies have proven these things to be true. Most of them simply reinforce what is obvious from reading an applied anatomy textbook.
The American Journal of Medicine is a good place to look. You can even get some good information from ASMI’s website, but nothing beats going to a library and actually reading these studies. I guess it’s easier to pretend the stuff doesn’t exist, though.
A delivery’s repeatability does nothing to prevent or to cause injury.
Stop; you had me at “orthopaedist.”

Aaron King is still my homeboy... iffy mechanics and all
If Dustin Pedroia played in Seattle, not many people would be talking about him.
