My suggestion: I think if you a game gets called because of rain, the home team should have to travel to the visiting teams park to make up the game on one of their offdays, not the other way around. Stupid Rainy cities on the east coast screwing everything up.

It takes a while to get used to the smell, then the taste, but once you do you’ll never go back.

There’s a rumor in Singapore that if you eat durian and wash it down with a type of liquor the unique properties of durian mixed with that liquor will kill you. Kind of like the Pop Rocks/coke rumor.

Well it was specifically on the effects of violent and aggressively themed socio-dramatic play on pre-k classrooms. The teacher handbook I developed was entitled “Kowabunga Dudes.” It’s probably mouldering away on the shelves of the education department at CSU-Hayward.

Very very basically it all comes down to power struggles, any parent of a 2-5 year old can tell you all about those. Superheroes are a way for children to work out some of those power struggle issues.

So should I buy my 3 year old a turtle mask? I’d like to work out those power struggle issues.

No, you buy her a bad guy’s mask and you buy yourself a turtle mask. Then you get the power struggle issues out of the way.

I would guess there’s still a copy up at CSUH in the Teacher Ed Library/Resource Room. I have to dig out my copy over the summer. I need to make a copy of it to persuade the local junior college that I really don’t need to take a course on discipline / classroom management.

The last time I looked at it I wasn’t very impressed with it. As you go through your career and look back at what you did 20-25 years ago (damn I’m old) you wonder if it was even written by the same person!

When I was like 12, my friend John and I froze his TMNT toys slid in ice, went to the roof of the garage, and threw them down onto the sidewalk until they shattered all over the place. Shit that was fun.

So, I wasn't in the thread for the pitch...

But what did you guys think? xanthan seems to say it’s a strike. I thought it was clearly low.

BTW: That’ll be $5.

I thought it looked low but it certainly wasn’t the worst call I’ve ever seen.

No such thing in the situation. If you think it’s a ball, take it. A walk would have tied the game.

and a strike out pretty much lost it.

I think there’s a lot to be said with becoming more risk averse with 2 strikes and two outs with RISP.

Randy Winn is going to catch that. And he'll do it real classy-like too.

The odds of that pitch being called a ball were way, way higher than the odds of Dunn getting a hit. 30% of Dunn’s swings miss the ball – and this was a Brian Wilson 96 MPH fastball at or below the knees. And only about one in three balls he makes contact with are hits. He made the right call.

by SFGuy on Jun 5, 2009 4:23 PM PDT up reply actions   0 recs

That pitch is a ball at least 50% of the time. And you had one of the worst contact hitters at the plate, and one of the best strike out pitchers on the mound. He made the right call.

I thought it was borderline enough that it’s not an outrage it was called a strike. I think it was probably a strike.

Yea when I work at 5 am, so naturally about 7 for my break I’ll wander on over and pick up a donut for breakfast. That’s pretty much all there is for breakfast anyway. I’m picky about what I eat and when I eat it. For instance around 2-4 am there’s nothing else I’ll eat but Taco Bravo.
