If Pujols hits 62, the media will say that he is the new home run king and discount Sosa/McGuire/Bonds

There is a chaco taco vending machine in Haring Hall at UCDavis. Clutch, as it has been above 100F here for the past 3 days.

I would say that Valdez, Miller and Medders are the dark side of the pen, Kruk, but Bochy hasn’t been using them in high-lev situations so it’s not so bad.

I remember Knepper as a late-70s pitcher so I had to go see if he was really still playing in 93.

there aren’t really that many – less than 10% of Americans, I think.
Randy Winn is in time out until his OBP gets back over .330.
I always question that. In social science research, there is a HUGE 'social conformity' bias.
Who really tells pollsters that he or she holds a belief that might be an outlier or at least out of the dominant paradigm? It’s probably underreported. It is also a difficult question to form and still get decent data.
For instance, if I worded it, “So, do you believe in invisible superheroes who live in outer space,” my guess is that we would see a big number “denying” an existence of the monotheistic view of “god.”

yeah, I’m not sure how the various polls are constructed. In fact, I work in a office of research psychologists, and none of them are sure, either. The polls seem to consistently come in below 20% though. Living on the California coast can cause you to underestimate the religiosity of the rest of the country, too. (I’m not saying you have, I’m just saying it’s something to consider).
Randy Winn is in time out until his OBP gets back over .330.
I like God Bless America, if it’s done by Kate Smith. When I was a kid whenever the Flyers needed a win in a big game they had Kate doing GBA instead of the national anthem. People just went nuts when she came out to do the anthem, and [at least it seemed like] the Flyers always won those games.

SAN DIEGO (AP)—Adrian Gonzalez(notes) suffered a strained right knee in the fourth inning of the San Diego Padres’ game against the Houston Astros on Tuesday night.
Gonzalez hit an RBI triple off Mike Hampton(notes) with one out in the fourth and slid hard into third base. After Kevin Kouzmanoff(notes) struck out, Gonzalez was visited by manager Bud Black and head trainer Todd Hutcheson, who examined Gonzalez’s right knee.
After a few minutes, Gonzalez came out of the game and was replaced by rookie Kyle Blanks(notes).

Int'l Signings Update
not sure if this has been posted yet, but…
• Wagner Mateo appeared to be the Giants’ top July 2 target, but that ship appears to have sailed with Mateo now likely headed to the Cardinals. So what is San Francisco’s next move? The Giants have spent big money on Dominican power bats Angel Villalona and Rafael Rodriguez in recent years, and they have been linked to a pair of other Dominican power hitters this year: Jacob Beltre and Rosel Herrera. The Brewers and Cubs are also believed to be interested in Beltre, while sources say Herrera has drawn interest from the Rockies and Dodgers.

On the same page there is a poll on who deserves to go to the All Star game, one name is Nate Schierholtz (they also have one for all, meaning 6 names with the usual and Randy Johnson).
Is there a choice for an unusual but non-randy johnson?

Well if Beltran is out only Kemp has a higher OPS+ for NL center fielders. If Scott stays hot it may not be that big a difference. Add to that he does a following back east and positive reputation.
N.L. All Star candidate Outfielder seem rather sparse on the ground this year.

Maybe 2005 (the year Feliz plays LF) is the closest in recent years.
Going they should have been at least completive. Instead it seemed like a miracle that team won 75 games. That was also the year Winn came over mid season and went insane. Though they were build very differently than the ’09 Dbacks.

Today’s the day I dared hope for this year’s Giants. To come back with three big thumpin’ wins after that horrid blown save… they will finish this post-Oakland roadie no worse than 3-4 and come back to a soft-looking homestand. Check it… St. Louis pitched out with Sandoval on first. That’s a sign!
A lot of things have broken right so far, but this team is fun again.

Randy gave up two more HRs?
I’m no kinesiologist/sports physiologist/pitching coach/analyst…hell , I’m barely a plumber…but in the last few years he’s definitely been leaving it up there.
Sometimes I think that if he just bore down a little more , made a deeper stride to the plate , that his pitches would hang out lower. But he just seems tired and half-heartedly tossing it in there…it ain’t Randy v. 2001 , thass fo’ sho’…
