I always question that. In social science research, there is a HUGE 'social conformity' bias.

Who really tells pollsters that he or she holds a belief that might be an outlier or at least out of the dominant paradigm? It’s probably underreported. It is also a difficult question to form and still get decent data.

For instance, if I worded it, “So, do you believe in invisible superheroes who live in outer space,” my guess is that we would see a big number “denying” an existence of the monotheistic view of “god.”

Forsan et haec olim meminisse iuvabit... Maybe.

yeah, I’m not sure how the various polls are constructed. In fact, I work in a office of research psychologists, and none of them are sure, either. The polls seem to consistently come in below 20% though. Living on the California coast can cause you to underestimate the religiosity of the rest of the country, too. (I’m not saying you have, I’m just saying it’s something to consider).

Int'l Signings Update

not sure if this has been posted yet, but…

• Wagner Mateo appeared to be the Giants’ top July 2 target, but that ship appears to have sailed with Mateo now likely headed to the Cardinals. So what is San Francisco’s next move? The Giants have spent big money on Dominican power bats Angel Villalona and Rafael Rodriguez in recent years, and they have been linked to a pair of other Dominican power hitters this year: Jacob Beltre and Rosel Herrera. The Brewers and Cubs are also believed to be interested in Beltre, while sources say Herrera has drawn interest from the Rockies and Dodgers.

Well if Beltran is out only Kemp has a higher OPS+ for NL center fielders. If Scott stays hot it may not be that big a difference. Add to that he does a following back east and positive reputation.

N.L. All Star candidate Outfielder seem rather sparse on the ground this year.

Maybe 2005 (the year Feliz plays LF) is the closest in recent years.

Going they should have been at least completive. Instead it seemed like a miracle that team won 75 games. That was also the year Winn came over mid season and went insane. Though they were build very differently than the ’09 Dbacks.
