I watched that replay today and it’s hilarious that not only did the bat leap out of his hand but he almost fell over when he hit it.
Now look at me. I'm wet nurse to a last-place, dead-to-the-neck-up ball club, and I'm choking to death!

What is with this team's inability to take a damn pitch?
Pablo exempted, no one seems to be willing to learn.
Jonathan Sanchez. He's left-handed, like Barry Zito. His fastball breaks 80, unlike Zito.
You know, I think Pablo is a great example of how age is crucial for hitters. I think the main reason he’s managed to change his approach and adjust while so many others (Lewis, Bowker 1.0, Linden, etc.) haven’t is that those guys were in their mid 20’s when they got the majors, and in many ways were already finished products. Pablo was only 21, so it was easier for him to learn.

Interesting Afflac Trivia question:
Name the 4 NL Cy Young Award winners Randy Johnson has beaten in his career.
I’ll go with Maddux, Pedro, Smoltz and….
lost once last year
because of a misplay in the OF by Velez
I’m glad that Randy Johnson’s teammates get ZERO credit for scoring runs off of those pitchers.

I think we be through this before. If the hitter is hot enough ( or the guys behind him cold enough) i would do it. You don’t. fair enough.

Matt Cain: He'll save children, but not the Dodger children.
PABLO SANDOVAL AM STEAL DEATH, DESTROYER OF WORLDS.
It basically comes down to this: a walk is worth .33 of a run. A hitter who would walk 700 times in 700 PA’s would be worth 230 runs. 2001 Bonds was worth 201 runs. 1921 Ruth was worth 214 runs. If you walk Pujols every PA, you turn into the best hitter in the history in the history of the game, by far. He’s nowhere near that level, even when he’s hot.
Adoptive parent of Noah Lowry.
:-(
It is when it’s Pujols and the rest of the Cardinal lineup looks this bad…
I mean sure, if there’s no one on base, pitch to him, no need to start a rally. But if there’s a sensible way to avoid him, by all means do. And make sure all the pitchers know— the old unintentional intentional walk is ok— if he wants to go fishing, fine, but nothing fat over the heart of the plate to Albert.

I was at a game when he made an emergency start in place of Shawn Estes, so that probably contributes to my fondness. He did surprisingly well.
We hold these truths to be self-evident, that pie > cake, that Bochy is endowed by his creator with certain undeniable traits, that among these are veteran man-love, a gigantic skull, and the pursuit of the double switch.
Adopted Giant: Fred Lewis, who can still draw a walk.
I remember that game!
I was going to mention an emergency start where he did well, but then I checked BBRef and he made 2 starts in his career, so I didn’t know when it was or anything.
Anyway, dude was cool
GROUGTHINK ALERT
