From now on, I’m assuming this means that the person is just really bad at bowling. As in, his bowling ball sinks into the gutter.

Only [hella] games left until the end of Zito's [no, make that Rowand's] contract.

Apparently I didn’t need to ask it, though. Jeez how unimaginative am I?
A hot August weekday, before a small crowd, when the only thing at stake is the tissue-thin difference between a thing done well and a thing done ill. Insofar as the clutch hitter is not a sportswriter's myth, it is a vulgarity, like a writer who writes only for money.

Tate has extra leverage with a football scholarship from North Carolina, and his two-sport status also will allow San Diego to spread his bonus over as many as five years.
I’ve read this a few times and still don’t get it. I mean, why do you get to spread the bonus if the kid plays two sports?

You mean, you don’t get the reasoning behind the 2-sport provision/exemption (whatever you want to call it), or…?

Yes
Why does San Diego get to spread his bonus out because he plays two sports?

MLB wants the best athletes, and wants to keep bonuses lower. Spreading a bonus out over time, while avoiding a MLB contract makes higher total bonus amounts more palatable to many teams. Were this allowed in all situations the bonus amounts would go up.
If a HS player is equally a good baseball prospect and basketball prospect, baseball is the riskier financial path, so this is an attempt to make it less riskier.
