Bryce Harper SI article

What the Harpers are considering, however, is having Bryce earn a GED credential this summer and enroll in a junior college this fall, which would expose him to more challenging baseball competition as well as make him eligible for next June’s draft, in which he would likely be the first pick in the country. Under that scenario, assuming the Nationals keep losing games at something close to their current rate (they have the worst record in baseball, and it isn’t even close), Washington could wind up with Strasburg and Harper in the next 12 months—the baseball equivalent of the Cavaliers getting James and Dwight Howard in consecutive NBA drafts. Of course, in both cases the Nationals would have to negotiate with Boras, who represents Strasburg too. A combined outlay in the neighborhood of $100 million is entirely possible. Boras, according to league sources, will use the six-year, $52 million deal he negotiated with the Red Sox for Daisuke Matsuzaka in December 2006 as the benchmark for a Strasburg deal.
Man, imagine what getting Strasburg AND Haper would do for the Nats.
Perhaps Sabean read this same article last night
And phoned down to the bullpen himself…
As for the Nats, they will figure out a way to fuck it up.

If there's one thing I've learned
It’s that if it sounds too good to be true, it usually is. Tim Lincecum of course defied that rule. Still, the odds are stacked against this kid.
That said, pretty friggin’ awe-inspiring.
"The BB's are out. The BB's are being arseholes to me." - Brian Wilson.
He kind of gives me the creeps. Nobody should be that good and that focused at that age.
If you had him, would you move him out from behind the plate? I think I would.
I didn’t realize that Verducci was such a good writer. I’m used to his quick rumor blurbs and stuff.
I don’t Verducci for one reason and one reason alone. Awhile back SI had all the baseball writers list their all tim favorite baseball articles. Verduci list was comprised of ~10 articles of which he autored about 5

I really liked the description of all of the showcases and traveling teams and whatnot that are available now. It’s almost like a new form of minor leagues but for HS players and younger. Years ago there were tons and tons of minor league affiliates where teams mined for talent. That doesn’t really exist anymore though in THAT capacity, but this is kinda similar.
I assume they are referring to the 09 Area Code games which are held at Dirtbag Field in LB. I believe it is usually in early August..(I think)

i adopt Les Plack, D.D.S. for the following reasons:
1. greatest name for occupation ever (except maybe lesbian prostitute sharon bottoms)
2. i am hoping for free dental care from my son (if he ever hears of this)
3. When asked a question about how he felt about Manny being suspended, Les replied "All smiles"

Bruce Bochy would like you to look at the career numbers and stop complaining.
Um, 570 foot homer?
This sixteen year old kid supposedly hit a 570 ft. homer at Tropicana Field? I get it…the kid can hit. A bat made of aluminum was used. But how does an obvious falsehood like this get into the SI article?
the real question
how could anyone get all the way through an SI article to find out that they are filled with falsehoods?
FIRE BRIAN SABEAN... UNLESS HE KEEPS DRAFTING WELL. .. AND SIGNS UNDERRATED PLAYERS LIKE AFFELDT OR PHELPS. .. OR ALRIGHT WHO'S PLAYING WITH THE ALIEN MIND-SWITCHING RAY?

Harper did, in fact, register at a JuCo to speed up his draft eligibility.
