Dye and/or Teahen?
Baggerly suggests these two may be on the radar. Given our need for power I would be ok with either, or both. Your thoughts?

I’d rather go after Alex Rios. Word is Blue Jays are looking to dump him and Wells to save up room to extend Doc Halladay.

Giants would have lost 100 games last season and would be in last place this season if Sabean made that trade. The Giants would also have a new GM right now.

DO NOT WANT
Merkin Valdez? Manuel Mateo? A rose by any other name...

Admittedly, I am less down on Teahen though. He just isn’t a plus defender AND plus hitter at any position of need for us.

No and no
Dye is old and powerful, yes, but he’s not worth the price. And Teahen is not really that powerful- where’d you get that idea?
Oh, and to Hobbes? No on Randy Winn jr.
Seriously, standing pat looking better and better.

I didn’t think I wanted Rios either, but he had a 5.5 WAR last year.

I don’t want Dye. I like Teahen, but he doesn’t seem like a good fit for the Giants.

Jermaine Dye
Would be a very nice addition to the team. Baggs make it sound like Lewis + second tier prospect gets it done – if so that is reasonable.
by wilriv21 on Jun 29, 2009 3:27 PM PDT reply actions 0 recs
Why not then….. Dye for Lewis + 2nd tier prospect! Depends on the 2nd tier prospect… but any pitcher not named madbum/alderson/Sosa/Wheeler seems expendable at this point to make a run at it.

I would take either I suppose. I wouldnt be happy about it, but I would scream and throw things at my Computer.

I don’t really want Dye for defensive reasons but man. The lineup sure would look a lot nicer with him in the middle of it (speaking purely offensively.)
He seems to be fielding better of late though… a few weeks ago, he was on pace for a -20 defensive season, now he’s down to -11.9. I hope they’d play him in LF and not RF though.

Absolutely
Schierholtz in RF and Dye then commands LF.

Wells is quite possibly one of the worst players in the game. -1.3 WAR….

Maybe if he came for free and the Jays paid most of his contract.

I like Rios and think he is a Great buy low target.
We take his salary and they can have Sanchez and Fred Lewis.

Yes, This is still a 79 win squad.

Maybe...depends on what we give up
I would be open to both. Both are northern california guys (Teahen went to St. Mary’s, Dye went to Will C. Wood HS and Consumnes River College in Sacramento) and I think both would rejuvenated to play here.
I like Dye for playoff and world series experience, while I think we would get more out of Teahen in the long run. That being said, I would want to see what we give up. I would want to be the ones getting too much in this kind of deal rather than giving up too much.

What would the lineup look like?
CF. R- Rowand
RF. L-Nate
3B. S- Panda
LF. R- Dye
1B. L- Bowker(hopefully)
C. R- Molina
2B. L- Teahen
SS. R- Renteria
Id take that in the playoffs with Tim, Johnson, Cain and Zito.

The INF defense on that squad. (/ shudders) We had better Teahen is much better at 2nd then I think he is.

Can Teahen really play second? I have a hard time believing that. If he’s supposed to play third for the GIants, forget it. That’s Panda country.

He played 3 games as a 2B this season, which also happens to be the same amount of games he’s played as a 2B in his career.
