Sadowski to start tomorrow?
Well, I don't think anybody saw that one coming. We have a winner in this year's Mark Dempsey competition, and it's a good one.

KNOW YOUR HISTORY
Ryan Sadowski, who reminded me a lot of Ryan Jensen. Any pitcher that ends up as successful as Ryan Jensen will have had to buck some incredibly long odds, so that’s hardly damning with faint praise. His mechanics and control were very impressive, but it was apparent that his mediocre stuff allowed him to slide to the Giants in the 12th round. He was able to get batters to chase his breaking pitches, but it remains to be seen if that skill will hold up as he advances to the higher levels. He got outs, and he got them quickly, so for a mid-round pick he was very encouraging.

Was more of a “Nate Schierholtz? Who?” type of “who”.
Merkin Valdez? Manuel Mateo? A rose by any other name...
Interesting, I was just coming here to post:
Alderson to start tomorrow?
From Schulman:
One minor-leaguer who would be pitching on his normal day is 2007 first-round draft choice Tim Alderson. Another is lefty Steve Hammond, who is coming off a great game at Salt Lake City for Fresno.
Hmm… something strange about that. Hammond and Sadowski are both starters for the same team. How exactly could this be the normal starting day for both? Actually Sadowski’s last start was the 20th, so it appears they might probably skipped his normal turn on Friday.
A hot August weekday, before a small crowd, when the only thing at stake is the tissue-thin difference between a thing done well and a thing done ill. Insofar as the clutch hitter is not a sportswriter's myth, it is a vulgarity, like a writer who writes only for money.
cuzza his complete game the other day… too many pitches…
blah blah blah….
at least that what Schulman said in his blog
He was pretty efficient, though, only 108 pitches. That’s the lowest number of pitches he’s thrown since April.

:-(
The number of innings thrown trump any kind of logical context.
Frankly, I’m less enthusiastic about taking his arm out of a five-day schedule than I ever would be worried about a low-stress complete game or two.

From Schulman:
I’ve also been told the Giants do not want to move Tim Lincecum up a day after he threw a complete game last night.
I’m assuming he meant Wed. night.
If they're Sanchez's rotation spot wasn't in serious danger, that would be the way to go.
But simply skipping Sanchez sends the message that he’s still in the rotation, if only by default. Much has been made of the fact that there’s no obvious replacement 5th starter, so the decision to actually calling someone up to (possibly) replace Sanchez on a permanent basis could be designed more to send Sanchez (and the fans, and the team) a message than to give the Giants the best chance to win in the short term.
Of course, tha’t just one possible explanation.

so who gets dropped from the 40 man? Pichardo?

he’s on the 60 day DL so he doesn’t count

The right-handed Sadowski, a 26-year-old long-time minor-leaguer, gets the call to replace Jonathan Sanchez. His contract will be purchased tomorrow as Rich Aurilia goes on bereavement leave.
It never occurred to me that one man could play with the faith of 50 million.

All I can say is why? Do you not want to give a start to someone who might actually win the fifth spot? They should be looking at someone who has a chance to take Sanchez’ spot, not a one game call up. Jeez, Milwaukee is going to cream this guy.

I think this is just their attempt to kind of straighten Sanchez out mentally.
Sort of what they did with cain a couple years back.
He was struggling while starting, they skipped his start, put him in the pen, and had him pitch one inning in I think Houston.
Next start out was his 1 hitter against the A’s and everything has been smooth with Cain since.
I agree, the best thing for Sanchez’s development (which is a hell of a lot more important than 1 game) is to at least hold him out for a start or two rather than letting the Brewers kill him and further erode his confidence.

The Zito treatment?

Only [hella] games left until the end of Zito's [no, make that Rowand's] contract.

Excellent point from baggs
One of the commenters here brought up a great point about Sadowski: The Giants probably brought him up because they don’t intend to keep him on the 40-man roster for long, and he’s a guy they could probably get through waivers.
If you call up Tim Alderson, for example, he’s pretty much on the 40-man roster for good. That would give the Giants less flexibility when they look to add potential players in trades. And after the season, they’d have one fewer spot when they’ll look to protect guys who’d be eligible for the Rule V draft.

is there really any reason to expect Sadowski to be better than Sanchez though? what’s the point?
Matt Cain: He'll save children, but not the Dodger children.
PABLO SANDOVAL AM STEAL DEATH, DESTROYER OF WORLDS.
I think mainly the later. Considering how this current manager& front office combo is resistant to change it does send a louder message when they actually do a change that is not of the more endless unconditional love for established Vets.

He is walking so many guys that they have to figure a change is needed. Maybe they figure a break and some sessions in the pen will help him get his mechanics consistent and head on straight. I’m skeptical, but anything that keeps him from losing 20 games this year is worth a shot
Sadowski on proper rest and hopefully getting through waivers to send him back down actually seems pretty logical. Hopefully it works out

And No, I don’t think Sanchez is that good of a pitcher yet.

I reserved my anger because I figured there had to be a reason. This will do nicely.

Optimistic approach
The Brewers know nothing about Sadowski, and that always seems to be a recipe for success against the Giants, so you never know. Maybe he can surprise them with some junk twice through the lineup and the Giants can turn it over to the bullpen after that. If Matt Palmer can beat people, so can Ryan Sadowski!! Jeff Suppan is no great shakes, and we have Babe Sandoval on our side.
