So, RafRod is ready to make his debut, and is easily the youngest player on the roster. A few other player notes:
• Pichardo's rehab apparently is about to begin
• Munoz is the second youngest on the team, a draftee out of Puerto Rico
• Scoma is the local kid, UC Davis prospect and grew up in Belmont, played at Carlmont and UC Davis.
• Andrew Romo - yes, that Romo. Sergio's little brother.
• Gus Benusa seems to be the highest 2009 draft pick on this roster, an 8th round high schooler. I'm a little surprised he signed.

Oh hey we finally get to see Leo Ochoa in action. He went in the 48th round last year, out of Quebec. Yes, you read that right.

At 6’1" 230lbs, it appears that Andrew is Sergio’s little brother only in age.

He’d fit right in…

Wrong link for Munoz
The link says he’s a 27-year-old pitcher in the Seattle organization.
Finding info on him was hell because of the Luis Munoz in the link. Also there’s an important person named Luis Munoz in Puerto Rican history. IIRC an airport down there is named after him.
I had to email a bloke at PerfectGame.com to get a scouting report on the guy the Giants drafted.

report on Munoz
Munoz has a very strong outfield arm. He has a good approach at the plate and has outstanding speed: 4.1 seconds from home to first base. He has average bat speed and some power as a hitter with room to increase power as he matures.

Aaron King is still my homeboy... iffy mechanics and all
If Dustin Pedroia played in Seattle, not many people would be talking about him.

and this Ochoa claims to be a lefty throwing second baseman. Cool. Unlikely, too.
cheering for Adam Witter, who will hit bigleague dingers some day.
Still yelling "Go, Antoan"
What happened to Luis Mateo?
We signed him with Rafael Rodriguez last year
If I remember correctly
I believe we voided the deal with Luis Mateo after he signed because of some medical issues. It strikes me that it was an elbow issue but I don’t remember for certain.
2009 Draftees who have signed and are not assigned to a minor league affiliate yet:
Nick Liles (7th Round)
Alex Burg (24th Round)
Craig Westcott (30th Round)
I look forward to many "Alec Berggggg" Seinfeld references if Alex makes it some day.

2009 Draftees in AZL
Here are the 8 confirmed signees that are currently on the Giants’ AZ Rookie League roster along with the round they were chosen, position, college / HS, and class year:
8. Karl Benusa … (CF, Riverview HS, PA)
14. Bryan Salsbury … (P, U. South Fla. – JR)
26. Luis Munoz … (CF, P.R. Baseball Acad., Puerto Rico)
27. Kyle Mach … (3b, U. Mo. Col. – SR)
36. Ryan Scoma … (RF, UC Davis – SR)
38. Addison Proszeck … (P, Gonzaga – SR) …let the Prozac / Bocock jokes ensue!
40. Jonathan White … (LF, Vanderbilt – SR)
50. Kaohi Downing … (P, Pt. Loma U. – SR)
It was posted above that the following 3 are signed, but can’t be found on any roster (maybe they’re injured or need some personal time before they report). This jibes with Schulman’s report that we signed 23 draftees – 12 are in S-K, 8 in AZ, and 3 unassigned:
7. Nick Liles … (2B, West Car. U. – JR)
24. Alex Burg … (C, Wash. State – SR)
30. Craig Westcott … (P, Belhaven Coll. – SR)

Can someone fill me in on AZL games?
I mean, I’m very interested to see RafRod, Correa, and Hector Sachez, but do people actually attend these games—other than scouts and family?
A friend who used to live there went to a few games and took photos for me. He says it’s free admission and you can basically set up doing whatever re: photos.

nice to see Sanchez and Izturis get their chance to play in the states, I have high hopes for those two.
I’m interested to see Ryne Price, the Giants drafted him as an OF out of Kansas and then converted him to a catcher.
Jason Jarvis is going to dominate this league and share his appreciation for music with all of his teammates.

prior to today we needed to send Zito to the instructional league
He gets a pass today for another start. Texas just wasn’t hitting anybody. If Andruw Jones homers off you, then the instructional league should be where u go.
I know Romo's brother is not really a prospect, but maybe Sergio can teach him some good stuff
Not that it means anything, but we all know how Jose Conseco’s twin browther’s baseball career turned out.
What are you basing the statement that he’s not a prospect on, other than Jose’s brother?

Andrew Romo
According to the June 29th issue of Baseball America, p. 45, Mike Marshall (the manager of the Golden League’s Yuma Scorpions, the team Andrew played for on the winter circuit in 2007) is quoted as saying:
“I’ve told Sergio. Andrew has the better arm. Sergio knows how to pitch but Andrew has the better arm. He’s got this hard sinker. He’s 88-92 mph with a really good slider. He’s not afraid of bats. He’ll give up a few hits, but he’ll pound the strike zone and he’s fearless.”
Sergio Romo: striking out professional hitters since 2005. And winner of the 2012 NL Fireman of the Year Award!
does Andrew Romo throw with Mike Marshall’s unorthodox pitching motion?

I’m glad to see Kaohi Downing on the roster. There’s something about being a 50th rounder that always makes me root for ’em. Longest of longshots, I guess.
