Post-Game Recap: Sweep Sassy Molassy (Giants Sweep the Rangers!)
Wait, so a pitcher who deserved a win and was getting jobbed by a wretched offense got the win after an old player came up with a clutch late-inning hit? Brian Wilson pitched a 1-2-3 ninth without drama? The Giants got a hit against a pitcher named Kevin? Runs, even? Pablo Sandoval had two hits?
Maybe that last one isn't so hard to believe, but the others are. Zito still needs to throw strikes, but he pitched well. The only way that I'd feel better about the sweep is if the Giants deserved to win last night. Nice bounce back from that horrid Angels series, fellas.

I know it’s all based on component stats/whatever but come on. Washington is on pace to lose like 112 games.
And the NL West is actually a pretty decent division this year.

This team would do wonders with a solid MI
The offensive improvement to a league average SS and 2b alone seems like it would be ~3-4 wins/.
Jonathan Sanchez. He's left-handed, like Barry Zito. His fastball breaks 80, unlike Zito.
Swept the A’s, got swept by the Angels, swept the Rangers. It’s all or nothing on this homestand, bitches.
They should have won that Lincecum start. This could have been a 7-2 homestand.

now, from the "Dept. of Getting Ahead of Ourselves..."
July’s Schedule:
20/27 games are against sub-500 opponents. (HOU, FLA, SD, PITx2, ATL)
13 of those 20 games are at home.
getting further ahead
August has what could be a nightmare stretch:
PHI, CIN, LAD, CIN, NYM, COL
The thing about that July schedule is no day off from July 17 tell Aug 6. Starting with 3 in Pitt & 4 in ATL (
Rain , Rain stay away) and capped with 3 in Coors. That is pretty freaking brutal. You hope the Staff gets the arms back together at home with 3 VS Pit then get 4 against the Phillies only to visit the Whiffle Ball Park in Houston for 4. That stretch really has to potentional to gut, torch & destroy the staff.
Then 8 days later go another 25 straight days.
Yes, This is still a 79 win squad.

the 7 man bullpen will come in handy. I assume we’ll see some trips up from AAA for Hinshaw and Puectas over that stretch.
Fact: The Giants are the only team in baseball to use only 5 starters all season.

Proud father of Juan Carlos Perez. Think Albert Pujols at second.
If the Minor League express only gets fired up for 2 arms durring that period I’ll be truely shocked. As well as probably havew watched Big Head have Tim & Gain throw 150+ pitches “to rest the ’Pen”. I can realy do with out the last. I don’t know how I can stress that enough.

It all depends on the current fortune/momentum of the team we are playing. Colorado will likely fall back to earth by August, and the Mets are so laughably inconsistent that you never know which team they’ll be playing by then

Mr. Merope and I kept marveling at the quietness out of the left field bleachers too. He suggested that maybe it was due to a “Father’s Day crowd” of more casual fans. We didn’t hear “He’s a bum!!!” until late – bottom of the 8th maybe? Hell, some games we’ve been to fans on the 1st base side will do that to pitchers as they are warming up.
The only “He’s a bum!” chant I noticed was after Jones’s home run.

The chances of Italy losing exactly 3-0 and the US winning exactly 3-0…wow. That was seriously one in a million/billion/really large number. Now to get stomped by Spain!

Don’t miss the Vietnam episode from Season 12 (don’t know when they’re showing it on BBC America). Amazing.

YES!
Epic 1949 race. It’s really too bad there will be only 7 episodes for this series. Also, FinalGear is a good source for all your TopGear related torrents, just in case you don’t all have BBC America. And even if you do, the episodes shown there are edited with different music and a bit of content cut out.

Hey did anyone else notice...
Im not sure what thread it was in but someone posted a link to the Rangers’ blog and they were pretty much all for signing Barry Bonds.
I thought that was interesting, and don’t know about anyone else but I’d kind of like to see Barry back any way possible.
They’re just frustrated, but they really dont know about offensive frustration.

Kinsler was running on the pitch, I believe, and Renteria dec’d him at 2nd base and he slid in. Winn made the catch and it was a run of the mill throw into 1st base, which bounced once and was an easy play for TI. Kinsler stopped running back to 1st and was easily doubled up.

This is one of the few places in the game where Vet Savvy actually matters.
Like Torres and the fake steal on friday that pulled Andrus out of position.

I’ve been out all day, so I haven’t had a chance to check in, but today was actually my first day at the park this year – with two kids under the age of three, it’s tough to get out. My cousins are visiting from Switzerland, so I took them today.
Of course, I forgot my hat, and the sun was pounding on his from the third inning on, so I’m looking awfully red right now. Ouch.
Otherwise, it was a great game. The Rangers’ only two runs came while I was going to the restroom, so as far as I’m concerned they never happened. The Jones homer was hit just a few rows away from our seats – apparently there was some controversy, but they said unequivocally that the ball was fair.
I never would’ve guessed how well Zito’s outing would go after the first two innings. He had control on his fastball and several balls were hit quite well. He did have a nice curveball going, and that’s all that saved him. Later he started getting strikes on his fastball, and after that he was unhittable. Well, except for Andruw Jones.
The Rangers’ handling on Milwood was Bochyean. They were lucky to escape without further damage – Ishikawa’s foul was smoked. It was really weird that they had Milwood pitched to him – I was sure Guardado was warming out to pitch to him and Lewis.
Whiteside doesn’t look anything like a major league hitter. I wish they’d DFAed him and kept Holm.
We hold these truths to be self-evident, that pie > cake, that Bochy is endowed by his creator with certain undeniable traits, that among these are veteran man-love, a gigantic skull, and the pursuit of the double switch.
Adopted Giant: Fred Lewis, who can still draw a walk.
OT but
just now on MLB 09 The Show Cain just got Cain’d.
loses a game in which he had a no hitter through 8 innings

Our bullpen is awesome!
I know ERA doesn’t tell the whole story but this is impressive – over half the pen with an ERA under 3 and nobody higher than Howry’s 3.91
B Wilson 2.94
B Medders 2.97
J Miller 2.40
J Affeldt 1.65
B Howry 3.91
M Valdez 3.43
S Romo 2.16

You know what's funny?
If the Giants make the playoffs, Bochy probably wins Manager of the Year.
Bruce Bochy would like you to look at the career numbers and stop complaining.

I pray this happens. (Giants make the playoff part). I don’t care if Bochy wins manager of the year.
He probably gets renewed if he wins the award

Though, it proves that a team can win the pennant even with an autistic chimpanzee at the helm. So who cares who the manager is.
Merkin Valdez? Manuel Mateo? A rose by any other name...
why are we talking about Clint Hurdle?
Randy Winn is going to catch that. And he'll do it real classy-like too.
he was actually one of the few managers to make a negative impact on his team.

If the All Star Game was next week
The Giants would get 3 pitchers in the game (one could start but the game is in St. Louis and Charlie Manuel may put Carpenter ahead of Cain or Lincecum). Wilson, at this point, would be in the All Star game again.
Nelson Cruz is happy to leave RF in AT&T behind him.
Randy Winn is going to catch that. And he'll do it real classy-like too.

I know I'm Late
I drove over from Reno for the game yesterday for my first game this year and just got back.
1. The zito no hitter snuck up on me. I looked up in the 5th and was like “really? a no hitter?” in my mind.
2. I thought Ishikawa had some good at bats in the game. He shouldn’t be batting 5th, but definitely should be playing everyday right now.
3. I still hate Andruw Jones
4. I like it when good wilson shows up. he was pounding the strike zone, it was nice.
5. Before the game during warmups, It seemed to me that we might have a starting OF of Lewis, Rowand and Schierholtz. It didn’t happen, but at some point that would be nice to see.
Finally, During the starting lineups, my mom (who hasn’t been to a game since the candlestick days) said on zito “Is that the pitcher? he’s the best looking of all of them, much better than whiteside, he’s ugly”
Great game, worth the trip.
Brand new adoptive daddy for the Big Unit. Congrats go out to my son for his 300th win. Only 211 more wins until he catches Cy Young!
