Matt Downs may be awhile according to Baggs

by wilriv21 on Jun 20, 2009 5:02 PM PDT reply actions   0 recs

Nice to hear my son will be staying up for a while. This is probably the only time I’ve said “the guy is a gamer” without any sarcasm.

Also from the article

Fred Lewis and Nate Schierholtz are off because Texas is starting a lefty, Derek Holland. But Randy Winn, he of the .107 average from the right side, continues to start against left-handers. Bochy said when Winn gets a day off, he’d probably look to when a lefty is starting. But he doesn’t plan to bench Winn against lefties

WTF ?

My adopted son Matt Downs . Ranked as the 24th best prospect in the Giants farm system by Baseball America !!

Frandsen screwed again!

So Downs is the new darling based on 3 games? He may have a powerful bat, but wait until his D loses us multiple games. What does Frandsen have to do to get some extended play in SF?

well, or wait till there’s actually some scouting done on him and other teams start exploiting weaknesses.

by Merope on Jun 20, 2009 7:03 PM PDT up reply actions   0 recs

This. I mean, the team is so desperate for offense that it doesn’t really matter where it comes from. If it’s Downs this week and Frandsen next week, that’s fine.

Okay?

I was mostly pointing out how bad Randy Winn has been this year against lefties, but if you want to throw it in there that Lewis has been awful too, then that’s cool.

Well, yeah, he has been awful against lefties, but slightly less so than Winn.

My point is that Lewis gets benched and Winn doesn’t, because Bochy.

The lines against lefties

Winn: .107 / .121 / .143
Lewis: .178 / .275 / .222
Schierholtz: .467 / .467 / .800

In 15 at bats, Schierholtz has more hits than Winn, more homers than either, and more extra base hits than Winn (the same number as Lewis).

Wheeee.

We hold these truths to be self-evident, that pie > cake, that Bochy is endowed by his creator with certain undeniable traits, that among these are veteran man-love, a gigantic skull, and the pursuit of the double switch.

What does Renteria have to do to get less playing time?

He’s horrible on offense, he’s horrible on defense, according to a Chron story a couple days ago he has a mild injury of some kind (like a hamstring pull), and the Giants have a backup who can play shortstop better and hit better and has recovered from his injury.

Josh Johnson and this Lincecum guy.

Randy Winn is going to catch that. And he'll do it real classy-like too.

Ignoring Santana’s last poor start, he’d been pretty dominant this year.

he’s actually had a few rough stretches. Good, but not nearly as good as Lincecum, Johnson or Haren.

his k/bb has been horrible his last 4 starts. He hasn’t had more than 3 K in his last 4

that’s why I don’t think he’s in the running. He’s great but he’s been pretty bad lately.

It can’t be Lincecum, becuase SFGuy has already established he won’t even make the all-star game.

Haren is always dominant in the first half

he has a habit of declining post-allstar break. Also considering how low his babip is, a regression is probably coming.

The way he’s pitching, Cain’s going to get his FIP under his career average tonight. It wasn’t that long ago it was well over 5.
