by wilriv21 on Jun 20, 2009 5:02 PM PDT reply actions

Nice to hear my son will be staying up for a while. This is probably the only time I’ve said “the guy is a gamer” without any sarcasm.

Also from the article

Fred Lewis and Nate Schierholtz are off because Texas is starting a lefty, Derek Holland. But Randy Winn, he of the .107 average from the right side, continues to start against left-handers. Bochy said when Winn gets a day off, he’d probably look to when a lefty is starting. But he doesn’t plan to bench Winn against lefties

WTF ?

Frandsen screwed again!

So Downs is the new darling based on 3 games? He may have a powerful bat, but wait until his D loses us multiple games. What does Frandsen have to do to get some extended play in SF?

well, or wait till there’s actually some scouting done on him and other teams start exploiting weaknesses.

by Merope on Jun 20, 2009 7:03 PM PDT up reply actions

This. I mean, the team is so desperate for offense that it doesn’t really matter where it comes from. If it’s Downs this week and Frandsen next week, that’s fine.

Well, yeah, he has been awful against lefties, but slightly less so than Winn.

My point is that Lewis gets benched and Winn doesn’t, because Bochy.

The lines against lefties

Winn: .107 / .121 / .143
Lewis: .178 / .275 / .222
Schierholtz: .467 / .467 / .800

In 15 at bats, Schierholtz has more hits than Winn, more homers than either, and more extra base hits than Winn (the same number as Lewis).

Wheeee.

He’s horrible on offense, he’s horrible on defense, according to a Chron story a couple days ago he has a mild injury of some kind (like a hamstring pull), and the Giants have a backup who can play shortstop better and hit better and has recovered from his injury.
