lots of fail in that inning

wasting an out with that bunt, letting winn bat(putting him third in the first place), first pitch out

by superk1ng on Jun 19, 2009 9:49 PM PDT reply actions

Nice bunt, but...

it’s a shame Torres didn’t see Rowand’s hit, “forcing” Bochy to once again knee-jerkedly go to his usual stupid bunt strategy. If Torres keeps running, he makes third and Bochy doesn’t have Rent bunt. Bochy also could’ve let Torres try to steal, but the gargantuan-headed moron just simply cannot imagine not giving outs away whenever a chance presents itself.

Why couldn't McCovey have hit the ball just three feet higher??

by Karlifornia on Jun 19, 2009 10:26 PM PDT up reply actions

Id give it to Romo

there’s a scorer’s choice element to it

Jonathan Sanchez. He's left-handed, like Barry Zito. His fastball breaks 80, unlike Zito.

by Aadik on Jun 19, 2009 10:27 PM PDT up reply actions

Well, sort of, but not really. Rule 10.17(c)

Discusses “ineffective” reliever who is followed by a more effective reliever. Unless it’s a total travesty, scorers are going to follow the basic rule on wins— whatever pitcher is on duty when his team gets a lead that is not then relinquished.

well

in that inning, Torres pinch hit for Medders before the winning run was scored; so, by the time the run scored, Medders was out of the game. In which case, I think Valdez gets the win?

Normally, Medders would get the win, since he was the pitcher of record (having gotten the last out before the Giants took the lead). But the Official Scorer does have the discretion to award the win to another pitcher if the pitcher of record wasn’t as “deserving” of the win as another pitcher (in his estimation).
