I understand why you don’t like Lewis but when you go on like this, you sound silly. Some ridiculous stat? UZR has been around for quite awhile now and it’s been worked on and improved quite a bit since MGL first unveiled it back in the early 2000s. Is it perfect? No, I think everyone here has talked about the limitations of small sample size WRT defensive stats. But it’s not a ridiculous stat.

by superk1ng on Jun 19, 2009 8:53 PM PDT up reply actions

Its ridiculous because when he was sucking it up & kicking balls around the outfield earlier this year, you all used UZR as the evidence that he was ‘above average’ so it had to be true. Three weeks later, he had dropped to ‘Average’ in the magic number column, and people agreed with that too. Why not just watch the games? The guy takes horrible routes (to fair and foul balls as shown today,) has dropped some VERY routine balls this year, and everyone that sits near me literally gasps or says uh-oh when a ball is hit to left. Stop worrying about numbers based on an imperfect algorithm and watch him…its ugly

I'll be pleasant for a moment

I know I pile on the team I love an awful lot, but I have to give them credit for designating our favorite mohawked, tattooed, 99-mph-throwing Pac Height bro as the closer, so that they can use the good relievers when it really matters. I like Sergio Romo.

Proud member of the Adopt-a-Giant program (Aaron Rowand)

uhh

that’s only because Sabean and Bochy are too damn stupid to realize Romo and Affeldt are the best relievers.

Jonathan Sanchez. He's left-handed, like Barry Zito. His fastball breaks 80, unlike Zito.

by Aadik on Jun 19, 2009 9:39 PM PDT up reply actions

True

But it is also probably true that using Romo as he does is more valuable than using Romo w/ 3 run leads with the bases empty in the 9th inning.
