Around SBN: Four TCU Football Players Among 17 Arrested In Drug Ring

Josh Willingham

He seems like a name that has gone largely unnoticed or talked about in terms of being someone the Giants should go after.

He has missed some time this year and still already has 9 HR's, his walk rate looks like it would be the best on the team at 14.1 %. He also is better than I expected defensively. He's around league average in LF, and he also would give us a RH stick to put in a lineup primarily filled with LH or SH's. He also can play a little first base and came up as a catcher, so he could be the team's 3rd catcher if need be. He seems to have durability issues, but his power numbers have been slowly increasing over the past 2 years. He would probably be a cheaper buy than Nick Johnson, and I think we'd be able to keep him longer then just this year.

He’s the sort of guy who has value despite low batting averages. Therefore, the Giants won’t like him.

We hold these truths to be self-evident, that pie > cake, that Bochy is endowed by his creator with certain undeniable traits, that among these are veteran man-love, a gigantic skull, and the pursuit of the double switch.
Adopted Giant: Fred Lewis, who can still draw a walk.

good call

But I wonder what their asking price would be an unnamed executive was quoted as saying…."One GM thinks the Nationals are demanding too much in return for their players. He says they want “a dollar and a quarter for a dollar.” from mlbtraderumors.com. If we acquire him i say stick him at first lets face it Ishikawa isn’t our future let alone present 1b. Maybe Pucetas and say Culberson get it done watever I’m just guessing but yea I’d be in favor

I’m not sure what shape he’s in at this point. He virtually hasn’t played in June and most of that time he’s been suffering from some mystery virus, which he came down with right before the Giants came to town. I think he played one series against Cincinnati but then went down again. Whatever it is has supposedly caused him to lose some weight and really sapped his strength. Currently he’s on bereavement leave, but he’s really become the missing man around here. He was just scalding hot before coming down with whatever he came down with, though.

A hot August weekday, before a small crowd, when the only thing at stake is the tissue-thin difference between a thing done well and a thing done ill. Insofar as the clutch hitter is not a sportswriter's myth, it is a vulgarity, like a writer who writes only for money.

No. Okay, now I’ll read your post.

Still no.

if we make a move, I want it to be someone who’s a no brainer upgrade over what we have. And when I say upgrade, I mean someone who’s even an upgrade over a hot Ishi, a hot Nate, and a hot Lewis. Someone who may be better and who’s just another name to toss in the mix is a waste of whatever player we deal to get him.

Operation Hot Ishi

Randy Winn is going to catch that. And he'll do it real classy-like too.

Willingam’s a catcher like Nate Schierholtz is a third baseman.

"he walked 18; new league record! Struck out 18, another new league record! He also hit the sportswriter, the PA announcer, the bull mascot twice..."

speaking of catcher, has anyone else noticed how hot Ronny Paulino has gotten lately? As of now, he’s having a better year than Bengie Molina. Brian Sabean makes a good trade, and can’t even make that rarity last for more than a few hours.

Although to be honest a guy like Paulino would be the perfect stopgap between letting Molina walk and letting Posey continue his development in the minors for a bit.

Ah, but that would require long-term planning…

Posey’s going to be in the bigs next year. That isn’t an opinion of mine, that’s simply the plan.

Merkin Valdez? Manuel Mateo? A rose by any other name...

All we are saying is Give Ishikawa a chance

We seem to undervalue our own guys, and over value everybody else’s. These guys need some playing time to adjust to the majors. Two years ago, nobody even thought Sandoval was major league material.

I have no problem with Ishikawa playing first, but we have a supreme weakness vs LHP, especially in the OF. Willingham also has 20 HR power.

me too

let Ishikawa play

Why would Willingham be cheaper than Johnson?
