Eraplus

AMAZING: Everyone in our bullpen has ERA+ over 100. Howry's actually the only one below 125!

perhaps the park adjustment for PBP is too generous?

by jctGamer on Jun 18, 2009 3:57 PM PDT reply actions

Possibly.

I think there’s also that relievers as a group have ERA’s about a third of a run lower than starters; there are alot of 4th/5th starters who really throw the average. When you see Howry with a 107 ERA+, that probably corresponds to an average or slightly worse performance relative to his fellow middle relievers.

Not that ERA (or ERA+) is a particularly good measuring stick for individual relievers (especially in a partial season), but it’s it’s pretty useful when you’re talking about the bullpen as a whole.

Jeremy Affeldt has been pretty good.

But that’s only because lefties can’t hit lefties, and thus our genius manager is playing the matchups that good managers do to win the games

I’m sticking with HORS (headsize over replacement skipper) from this post. The one category that Bochy will always lead.

Your welcome

I was pretty surprised. I doubt it keeps up, but for a moment, in 2009, this was OUR San Francisco Giants.

I dun believe you.

Bruce Bochy would like you to look at the career numbers and stop complaining.

Everyone should.

Sergio Romo: striking out professional hitters since 2005. And winner of the 2012 NL Fireman of the Year Award!

Romo’s FIP is positive now: 0.37

Randy Winn is going to catch that. And he'll do it real classy-like too.

Miller’s FIP is near 5.0. I bet he implodes soon.

FIPs

Sergio Romo – 0.34
Brian Wilson – 3.13
Jeremy Affeldt – 3.25
Bob Howry – 3.43
Merkin Valdez – 3.73
Joseph Martinez – 3.81
Brandon Medders – 3.99
Justin Miller – 4.96
Pat Misch – 5.76
Osiris Matos – 6.23
Alex Hinshaw – 7.94

Brian Wilson, 2nd best FIP in our pen. YIKES. Honestly though, the pen has been pretty great.

Proud father of Juan Carlos Perez. Think Albert Pujols at second.
