That my young friends...
Is the theme from a classic Saturday morning show called “This Week In Baseball.” You definitely have the correct time frame. Back before the days of the computer, internet and yes, even ESPN and Sportscenter, we had to wait to see baseball highlights. Every Saturday, this show, hosted by Mel Allen, would show you the highlights and great plays from the previous week in baseball. Just hearing that theme back then made me instantly happy. And, if I recall correctly, it was followed by the game of the week. This was the one nationally televised game for the week. Back then, the Giants only televised approximately 20 games (all road games) per year. Oh, and the Chronicle had a one day delay for box scores of night games. I much prefer the present rate of information transmittal.
