Offer from Halos Heaven? Would like Giants nations take. Thanks.
Good day to McCovey Chronicles folks from Halos Heaven. I was curiouis about a trade offer, maybe you might be interested in. I more or less want to hear what you think or what you would want, and not want:
"Word on McCovey Cove is that Wilson has competition in the closer role… some young guy (I’m thinking like the way we were all talking about Arredondo taking over for K-Rod). Might be the rigt time to jump on him.
Along with Wilson, I really like their FA acquisition of Jeremy Affeldt. He just turned 30 and Wilson is only 27.
My proposed trade:
Erick Aybar, Jeff Mathis, Mark Trumbo, and Terry Evans for Jeremy Affeldt, and Brian Wilson.
My reasons for it:
1. In my opinion Erick Aybar is expendable, especially with him blocking Brandon Wood. Aybar brings youth to the Giants IF at either 2nd or SS. Especially with an aging Renteria who is 34. Plus their current 2nd baseman is unproductive, albeit young at 22, may need another year or two in the minors. Aybar could be a productive leadoff hitter for the Giants.
2. Jeff Mathis brings them solid defense at catcher, along with youth to take over Bengie as he is 34 years old. And their back-up catcher is weak.
3. Trumbo is behind Matt Brown at this point as well, but held in a high regard as a solid prospect with a big upside in the power category. The Giants 1st baseman combined for 2HR this year so far… 2.
4. I hate to give up Terry Evans beause I like the way he plays. He seems like a team first guy. But again, dealing from depth. Sadly by choice on this one due to our stock piling of aging OF’s. Anyhow, Aaron Rowand is 32, and Randy Winn is 35. Their other OF is young and unproductive so far. Evans would start for them today, and I’d be happy to see him get his chance."
That's the message I put out to Halos Heaven. I was curious wat you all thought? Add players? Change players? Lets the get this deal done!??? Thanks a lot.

The Giants and Angels might be intriguing trade partners, but this trade wouldn’t fly. I can’t see the Giants gut their bullpen of two of their top arms for a hitter. Maybe one, but not two.
That, and the unlikeliness for the Giants to give up entirely on any of their young position players already (especially with the promise that especially Lewis, but also Sandoval and Burriss have shown) in favor of these guys. And there is no way the Giants will give up on Rowand (and shouldn’t, the way he is hitting) or Renteria (who hasn’t been unproductive and is cheap) either. Maybe if they were getting an outstanding player, or the cost was cheap, but neither is true in this trade attempt.

This is a terrible trade for the giants…However Lewis is neither young(28), nor promising.(1HR 8RBI 180AB)
Not to mention the fact that he looks like he is gonna drop every flyball hit to him.

Hell Yes!
And since you’re throwing Jeff Mathis, maybe we can interest you in Buster Posey as well?

ya
you might as well spread the word that we’re probably not interested in catching prospects at this point— between Sandoval, Posey, and the kid we drafted in the second round this year, Joseph, I’d say there are a lot of other positions we’d probably prefer to draft first.
As for Aybar, just looking at his offensive numbers, I fail to see how he’d really be much of an upgrade over Burriss. Maybe the transition to the NL would help him some, but probably not enough to merit moving two of our best relievers.
Don’t know much about Trumbo, don’t need more GAMERS like Evans. I’d definitely pass.

I think any trade with the Angels should include Brandon Wood as a beginning. But no, I can’t see the Giants trading Wilson and Affeldt without getting something very substantial in return, and I don’t see Aybar as any part of such a deal. Mathis and Trumbo are interesting, for different reasons, but neither (nor together) are compelling enough to persuade the Giants to give up their two best relief pitchers.

how about some quality instead of all that quantity?
I would give you Affeldt and Wilson but I would rather have Brandon Wood and somebody else worthwhile in exchange, maybe Sean Rodriguez or Howie Kendrick (a change of scenery might do him some good) rather than that collection of 4 scrubs.

“Scrubs” is a perfect word to describe those players. This seems like the kind of trade I’d try to pull in Baseball Mogul.

How about Sanchez for Brandon Wood? I'd do that in a second. Its WIn Win!
by Squire_Boone on Jun 14, 2009 4:54 PM PDT reply actions 0 recs
I think you’d have to at least think about that one… but at this point, unless he gets hurt, Sanchez’s trade value probably won’t get much worse. But if he has a nice month, it could skyrocket before the deadline. I think it’s worth it to hang onto him into July and see if he can maybe net us something more substantial/proven (Dan Uggla? That would be a pretty damn nice scenario).

Might want to research our farm system before proposing trades like this.

We already gave you Matt Palmer!
For nothing at all. How ‘bout some credit for that. ;-) Seriously though, for 2 of our top 3 pen arms we would need at least one almost sure-fire bat at a position of future need (ie. Brandon Wood). I mean we are leading the NL wildcard race right now. Why should we decimate our pen, not to mention give up our only legit left-handed reliever, for a handful of quasi-prospects and a back-up catcher (we do have several of those in our system already) just to fix a huge weakness on your team? Where’s the win-win?

Also, do some research
I’m pretty sure Giants 1B have hit more than 2 HR now that Pablo’s been playing there a few weeks

Trumbo has a Bengie Molina line at AA (227/311/496), and in ATT, that SLG% would go down, leaving him a batting average and OBP drag. Sounds like Travis Ishikawa with less glove.
Evans is 27 years old, and looks like a quad A outfielder, and OF is not a position we need. Theres no way he would start for us immediately as you insist.
Mathis… has already been addressed, we have Buster Posey. And even if we didn’t, his career OPS is .596. Even if our backup catcher does suck, he’s just not an upgrade.
So it boils down to Eric Aybar, a below average player, for a dominant lefty (and our only lefty) and a closer who is cost controlled and likely to get better. So… no.

I’m really curious why this seems like a good deal to you. The Giants trade their closer and set-up guy with no one to replace them and receive no one to replace them in return. The trade might improve their offense a little but it completely guts the bullpen. It really makes no sense.

I like this trade b/c we get all the players they have blocking better players while we give up two really crappy pitchers! This is so onesided

Haha...
I would hardly call Aybar, Mathis, Trumbo, and Evans useless junk. I think your manager just stated that the LF position is wide open… I’ve seen Evans play and I’m sure you could use him. He’s a solid player and room to improve. Let me know who else you got…
Aybar could be your 2nd baseman because Burriss can’t hit for shit. Burriss is batting .238 where as Aybar is batting .291… So far, I see 2 big points for you guys. When… and if, Burriss ever hits, Aybar can than move to SS where your current one is aging.
Your AAA 1st baseman is 25 years old, and I know you don’t have a solid 1st baseman on your MLB roster. What are you waiting for? Trumbo hit 32 jacks last year. So, he’s off to a slow start, it happens.
And Mathis… a very respectable catcher. He’s a phenomenal defender and has a little pop at the dish. The Giants can groom him to take over for Bengie as he is getting older.
I can offer you relievers… but the point in a trade is you have to give something, to get something. Understand that concept, please.

I don’t like that 1 rec = green shit they have going on over there. It really devalues the green comments and I’ve yet to see one green comment over there that is especially funny or intelligent.
As for the trade, no thanks for the reasons already stated.

Aybar, Mathis, Trumbo ... (barf)
pretty DUMB trade idea
are we willing to give up give up some quality pitching for, oh say, a 40 HRs a season cleanup bat? Yes, we definitely are. Let us know when you have the aforementioned bat to offer us – and of course we’d be willing to make a fair trade. Until then, forget it.
