Good to finally see a Giant getting good pub…Our staff is sweet! And the team is really picking it up. Time to look to trade a young pitcher for a bat…can we get BRAUN from MILWAUKEEE? HEY GAIS LETS GET ADAM JONES EH EH?

CBizzle25 says

Great lineup? 1 hit by Rowand through five innings. Thats all you can expect from a lineup full of backups and a struggling Lewis. Giants need to desperately call Bowker up to fill the left field void. Have Schierholtz stay as the 4th outfielder and pinch hit role and Torres can fill in at LF verse a tough lefty. Thats option #1. OR the Giants can package P J. Sanchez and OF Lewis to the Baltimore Orioles, who are in desperate need of starting pitching for OF Adam Jones who is young at 23, is hitting .340 and has a lot of upside and brings more to the table than Lewis at 28. Jones would fill in perfectly at LF and can bat 6th for us.

I also gotta wonder why guys who seem to hold their own in AAA can’t seem to make half-way decent contact with the big boys. The approach seems to just go to hell once they’re promoted.

Is that an Olympic event?

by Merope on Jun 11, 2009 3:45 PM PDT up reply actions

Your Honor, I offer Exhibit Travis Ishikawa.

Exactly. And a good batting coach SHOULD be able to work with someone like TI to get his head back on right. He was fine in spring training, showing patience at plate, then comes up here and gets all slop-hacky.

THEN come to find out that the reported theme of the coaching this season is to have a selective target for your first pitch, and if it is in your target, go ahead and swing. Well, great, but with these guys, that target is not nearly restrictive enough. Not f’ing nearly. So they take that advice NOT as a restriction, but as permission. This would have been apparent in the 3rd week of the season, but apparently hasn’t been modified. Cot damn.

I sort of wonder if some of Lewis’s struggles lately are connected to management’s publicly stated desire to fuck with his approach and make him into an aggressive power hitter, too.

I almost hope they fall into another major skid. I don’t have any faith in this team’s ability to contend this year, and I don’t want them throwing away good prospects on Nick Johnson or Hank Blalock or whomever.

I don't get the Sanchez hate on this thread today. He's the FIFTH starter, and gave up ONE run in almost 6 damn innings!

Yes, lots of walks, blah blah blah. They were scattered enough that he gave up ONE RUN IN ALMOST SIX INNINGS. A few Dbacks hit some good pitches— that makes him terrible? I’m not nominating Dirty for the CY just yet, but for crying out loud, our 5th pitcher held another team to one run for almost 6 innings. That is fine.

by oldjacket on Jun 11, 2009 3:33 PM PDT up reply actions

Some luck, yes, and it's true he was facing a bad team that beats itself a lot.

Still, he was doing ok for a 5th starter. I don’t want him to pitch like this every game (or any game), but he wasn’t capital-T Terrible.
