"11. Bruce Bochy, Giants: Gets a lot of respect for his in-game maneuvers, knowledge of the game, and general demeanor. "

My feelings for Bochy's in-game maneuvers do not even come near to "respect." Perhaps the size of his head influenced Nick Cafardo.

Maybe Bochy was ranked lower initially, but Cafardo made a double-switch halfway through writing the article.

25-24 - Giants Series Record: 10-5-2, 8-1 at home

Adopted Giant: Daryl "Dealio" Maday - 2nd bad start in a row. 5 ER, 7 H and 3 BB is only 4 1/3 IP. Overall ERA has risen to 3.99. Time to shape up, son. A thought: Maday has given up either 0, 1, 2, or 3 ER in every start except his last two, both of which have been against Portland. We'll blame it on those Sea Dogs!

Randy Winn is going to catch that. And he'll do it real classy-like too.

the Boston Globe had no credibility to begin with.

Well, I dunno about that...

…but if a newspaper loses credibility every time a sports columnist writes something half-assed, then every major daily in the country would be below Weekly World News level.

I don’t think Bochy is a terrible manager, but I am nonplussed by the respect for his “in-game manuevers”. Maybe they were talking about his Nintendo skills.

Meet my new son: Sundrendy Windster, coming soon to a minor league near you.

newspapers are going of business for multiple reasons, the lack of quality of their product is among them. the Boston Globe is a paper that may be seeing its final days.

Nah, there’s plenty of crap products in this world doing great business. Hell, check out the movie gross list most any week of the year to disprove that theory.

A hot August weekday, before a small crowd, when the only thing at stake is the tissue-thin difference between a thing done well and a thing done ill. Insofar as the clutch hitter is not a sportswriter's myth, it is a vulgarity, like a writer who writes only for money.

And Cito Gaston, who’s already won two World Series and has the Blue Jays 19 games over .500 since he returned to manage them, is 14th. Seriously, what else does the guy have to do to earn respect? Defuse a dirty bomb?

what he’s really saying is that Bochy is only the 20th worst manager in the major leagues.

Blue Jays fans, in my experience, have something of a love/hate relationship with Gaston. On the one hand, he seems to get results, but on the other, his actual in-game management often seems lazy or weird. He’s sort of like their Dusty Baker, it seems like.

We hold these truths to be self-evident, that pie > cake, that Bochy is endowed by his creator with certain undeniable traits, that among these are veteran man-love, a gigantic skull, and the pursuit of the double switch.
Adopted Giant: Fred Lewis, who can still draw a walk.

In a wrestling match, nobody fights like Gaston.

Dusty tends to do very well for the first few seasons everywhere he goes.

Bruce Bochy would like you to look at the career numbers and stop complaining.

Read the description

It’s gallingly apparent that the writer had never heard of Bruce Bochy or the Giants, so he wrote something universally applicable and ranked him high-but-not-too-high to ward off angry e-mails.

Seriously, this is palm reading. “You’re serious and focused, but can cut loose and have fun on a Friday night. You’re not the social butterfly at a cocktail party, but your close set of friends know they can count on you in a pinch.”
