…there could be roster moves I would guess. I don’t have a ton of hope, Bochy already said Aurilia will start in place of TI tomorrow.

So I am listening to the Augusta game right now and Ziegler needed to change it up a bit today. He apparently did so by coming to bat with Tom Sawyer by Rush as his music. Meh

"Rush" kicks ass!
Tom Sawyer is one of their better songs

Tom Sawyer really isn’t one of their better songs. And even if it’s up there it’s played way way too much.

Kevin Frandsen should be with the big team.

gotta love the guitar riffs right before the chorus in Tom Sawyer
Limelight, Working Man, 2121 Overture are all awesome too – but YYZ is probably my personal favorite – other gods of rock bands are obviously better than Rush (their vocals would never come close to Led Zeppelin) – but they can do some real rocking with their guitars (that modern day bands today don’t do anymore)

I originally found this site as “waiting for boof”, kept reading cause grant was so god damn funny.
I have just had it with the negativities and random “xxx gotta go” mentality on that board, and I got a little bit carried away today. I’ll try to refrain from doing that again.
I understand. I wanted to get involved in that shouting match as well. Best to say your piece as a response to Baggs, but not try to have a e-conversation with other commenters.

In addition to the obvious stuff like the G's need to score a run here & there...
I would add that I hope any Giant who played in the field today should reflect on his defense. We need excellent defense because our offense leaves no margin for error at all, and thus we have to help our pitchers suppress the opponents’ runs. Guys are going to have to be better than “league average,” and challenge themselves to be smarter and better. There were bad moves galore today from everyone.
Obviously, it would be a little less important if we scored runs regularly, but we don’t. And obviously, record-setting defense would not have mattered today because we didn’t score at all, so still would have lost. But I hope they’ll stop kicking themselves about their flaccid offense for a night and kick themselves for their poor work on defense today.
I will have nightmares about that botched run-down. Unless I drink before going to bed. Scratch that— I won’t have nightmares about that botched run-down.

Well said.
This team needs to control what it can control. It’s fielding today and the complete lack of working the starter pitcher is prime examples. They refused to do either. If this line up was bunch of rookies that’s one thing but only Lewis & Burriss are less than 3 MLB years experience. This was veteran heavy line up and as a whole they looked like they should be in AAA.

Excellent point about their failure to work the dodgers starting pitcher
Absolutely right. They really should know that the rulebook specifically makes SWINGING OPTIONAL. Even more true last night, actually, when the umpire had a narrow strike zone. There seems to be no strategery whatsoever when they go to the plate.

well, actually the Giants were their own worst enemy
this game was ours for the taking – any average baseball team in the major leagues could have won this one
but combined with Jonathan Sanchez taking the day off with his evil twin as the replacement, at least 6 out of 9 defensive players laying goose eggs on the defense, and swinging at pitches like they were still in the minor leagues … we wrapped this one up in pretty paper, and gave it to the Dodgers for a present with a bow on top – no one to blame but ourselves
"Those boos really motivate me to make something happen." - Bonds
I’m pretty sure in ultra-slow-motion, Sanchez did field that ball and then promptly threw it into LF as hard as he could. There’s no way that ball bounces that far away just bouncing off the toe of his glove. The physics are impossible. It must have been Sanchez’s evil Dodger loving twin.

I like it better when we get our shutout, crappy starting pitching, meh bulpen and dumb defense out all on the same day. Less frustrating over all then when you mix those with some good pitching, or lose a game our offense shows up on with some crappy defense.
If only each of those were in finite quantities so you could spend them all at once like that.

Potential roster moves
If the giants were to try to tweak the offense, who would you like to see brought up?
I would think maybe Velez and TI would be out and Bowker and Guzman would be in, but I could see maybe Pablo being pushed to first and Rohlinger getting called up to play 3rd. I am definitely not a fan of pablo at 1st and uribe at 3rd.
another thing, being as TI is out of options, if he loses the starting spot, do you think there is and chance aurilia gets the DFA instead and Ichi gets a chance to redeem himself on the bench as a late inning defensive replacement?

I hate the Uribe as starting third base man trail balloon. Unless there are health issues that were don’t know about with Panda at third the team is better served sticking with Sandoval at Third experiment. Panda as done extremely well and we, of all fans, out to know just how much harder it is to find decent output from third base if your team does not have David Wright, Mike Schmidt or Matt Williams.
The thing with bringing up Guzman&/or Bowker is would they be played regularly? I really have my doubts. I look at how all three starting Out Fielders are having issues and marvel at how Big Head can only get Lewis an extra day off. At this point I don’t care what Nate did, or didn’t do, nor do I care if he can’t hit out of a wet paper bag those three need extra time off and frankly Lewis needs it the least.
If the Vetgasm is under control then shrewd thing might be Bowker if his hitting as progressed far enough. Let him take time spelling the corner outfielder and play some first.

Roster moving
If Bowker comes up, I could see Velez going down. Then John Bowk could be the 1b and 5th OF. However, I think he as too much overlap with Ishi and Nate. I could see the Giants not moving him up just to save an option year.
But your point about the Aurilia is interesting. Aside from the strikeouts, Aurilia and Velez have been worse at the plate than Ishi (in a smaller number of PA). Could Richie get a DFA, and we see someone like Dallas or Jesus or Phelpsie up to SF? Heck, what about McClain?
On the other hand they could send down Velez, and call up some new infielder and just knock Bocock off the 40-man. I think that would be a pretty safe move.
And I wonder if Crawford up to AA could contribute to a Frandsen bump up to super-utility, sac-bunter, pinch runner and scrappy gamer in SF and then shift Velez to Fresno. Kevin could be a better non-platoon mate for Ishi than Richie and could back up the outfield as “well” as Velez.

I agree with your point on aurilia. I believe that if bowker came up, it would be as just a 5th OF and a emergency 1B. my purpose behind bringing bowker up is to make our bench better. Frandsen up isnt a bad idea, though I would want him to get regular ABs. I wouldn’t mind seeing those two up because our bench would be upgraded. I believe Phelps and Mcpherson are hurt, and as you said, McClain is in Japan, so Bowker, Guzman, and Panda are the only options at 1B.

the Richie DFA and useing Dallas of Phelps to soak up pain tell either Guzman or Bowker advance more would be far better the Uribe starting third base man 5-6 days a week . IHO

I agree. I would much rather have Ishi to give him a chance to turn it around, plus his defense has been great. Guzman and Bowker have both been hitting in AAA, but guzman is new to 1B and bowker has been taking innings only at RF, so keeping Ishi on the roster as a defensive replacement would be ideal.

Bruce Bochy’s idea of “tweaking” the offense is moving Pablo to 1st and playing Uribe everyday at 3rd. That and making sure Aurilia gets more at bats for his “veteran presence” (despite the fact Aurilia is hitting worse then Ishikawa).
I was angry at Bochy when I read those comments, but now that I think about it, what can he do? He’s not the one who brings Guzman and/or Bowker up, he can only deal with the players on the 25 man roster. I wouldn’t bring up Bowker, because he would never play. Nate is the fourth outfielder and he rarely plays, so what’s the point of having Bowker rot on the bench? They’re both lefty, so there would be no reason to play Bowker on a day that Nate isn’t playing. Bowker hasn’t been playing first base at Fresno. What I would do is bring up Guzman and immediately play him like he’s been playing Rochie, which means against lefties and an occasional start against righties. Do that for a month, and if Ishi still doesn’t get going, pull the plug on Ishi as well and give Guzman the everyday job. If Jesus isn’t hitting either, it’s time to make a trade, or perhaps McPherson will get hot at Fresno.

I kind if agree with this. The only reason I want Bowker up is to improve the hitting off the bench. I would hope that if bowker were up, we might see the occasional Bowker-Winn-juggernate outfield. Maybe i’m being unrealistic in my optimism, i don’t know. Also, I think at this point you have to think rohlinger could help the team, but given that I don’t know the org’s long term plans for him, maybe he’s best suited to play in fresno.

And what effect does Torres have on these plans, once he’s healed up. Would Bowker become the 6th outfielder? Or back to the minors? Unless Bowker is really hot at the plate right now, I think Ieave him in AAA, and wait for the injuries to heal on the other list of AAAA players. And (reminiscent of the Burriss gotta go), Ishi still only has like 70-80 PA. A hot week (or even couple of games) and maybe the people despise him less – though I’m worried about his confidence level and strikeouts like everyone else.
I’d rather Uribe start at first and leave Sandoval at third, if it’s just going to be a platoon thing with Ishi. I don’t want to see Pablo bounce between three positions. Especially since he seems to be making big strides at 3B. On the other hand, how much of an upgrade is Uribe over Ishi/Richie?
And I think I’d rather see Frandsen up as super-sub than Rohlinger. Rohlinger has more to prove in a full season of AAA than Frandsen does. I think Frandsen has had a chance to play off the “rust” at this point, and I want to see him get 300-400 at bats against major league pitching this season. Heck, maybe even a few starts at 1st base.

I am not to wild about the idea of Uribe at first. I don’t think he has ever played there and I think Grant hit the nail on the head a while back comparing him the Vizcaino on the late 90’s team. When used that way he turns out to be way more valuable then numbers would suggest. When not used that way he tends to creates a massive spinning vortex of suck.
I do agree with your other points though.
Where is my beer & chili dog?
Oh, I don’t want Uribe at 1st. I don’t want Uribe starting. But I want Pablo getting time at 3rd and/or catcher and not throwing him over to first, just so Uribe can play 3rd instead of 1st when Boch has to sit Ishi out of Vetophilia.

Here in NY
I was happy to discover that while Fox was showing the REDSOX, I could catch the Giants-Dodgers game on Fox Sports Espanol. A rare chance to watch the team on TV! Great!
When the suddenly stopped coverage at 6pm to go to a Chivas -Jaguares or whatever Mexican League football match, I was a little sad and maybe a little happy to be let off the hook. Missed the last two innings. Oh well, I had work to do.
I know he’s slumping something terrible now, but didn’t Scapegoat-ikawa have like 3 dingerz against Stults in ST? I really think of Ishi as a mistake hitter. I still hope he gets to start tomorrow.

I still want to believe we're different (better) than we were last year
we are, aren’t we?
I mean, last year The Onion was making fun of us, remember?
4/10/08 – MILWAUKEE—The San Francisco Giants put aside their differences Sunday night, working together as a team in a common effort to score a run in a baseball game. The scrappy nine-man crew overcame daunting odds to cobble together the run, as each player used his individual strengths and skills to help string together an unlikely series of events—including a walk, advancement on a wild pitch, an infield single, and perhaps most selfless of all, a ground into double play—that ultimately resulted in a Giant crossing home plate. “This just shows you what a team can do when they put their mind to it,” said Giants first-baseman Dan Ortmier, who was swarmed by his celebrating teammates at home plate after scoring the run. The Giants lost to the Brewers 12-1.

Here in New York, we can’t see the games on Saturday with the Fox blackout, so I never waste my day off listening on the internet. Yesterday I was so psyched by Friday’s win that I stayed home for the first time. Last time I do that! Next Saturday, they’re playing the Mets so I’ll be able to watch, but with Santana pitching against us perhaps I should pretend there’s a blackout.

Fred Lewis is a good fielder compared to the average left-fielder. He’s not a good fielder compared to the average guy with his tools. IMO, his defense has been good, but still disappointing.

It's a shame Fred is sucking
Because he sure looks good in a Giants uniform… literally. I mean, I know that expression is usually just a metaphor for wanting a a player on the Giants, but yesterday Freddy looked damn good on TV, especially with those wrap-around sunglasses giving off an orange reflection.
