with the exception of Marmol, it looked like the Cubs’ pitchers were just throwing the ball down the middle of the plate because they know the Giants’ can’t hit. They were right.

Silver Lining: We may see some young position players on the big club sooner than we first expected. It’s a shame to waste such a great pitching staff

I suspect that even if the young guys get a call-up, they’ll languish on the bench a la Nate. Or they’ll be useless like Velez or Burriss.

I hate the way he handles pitchers, puts together lineups and decides who to pinch hit in certain situations. Obviously he doesn’t deserve all the blame, but as far as I’m concerned, he’s doing nothing to prove he deserves the job.

OT Silver Lining

Kung fu Panda can rake. Many here project him to fall back to earth but I just don’t see it. The league adjusted to him and he just adjusted right back in about two weeks. I believe we do indeed have a fat Ichiro on our hands. He’ll hit .300-.330 for the next decade.

Unfortunately, he’ll have only modest power, and you can’t really build an offense around a fat Ichiro.

I read one theory that the open concourses allow more wind in the stadium to carry fly balls further. Because other than that, it’s roughly identical to the old Yankee Stadium

Taco Bell promotions

I noticed flipping around that Taco Bell has a promotion with a few teams, Colorado and Arizona for two, that if that team scores 6 or more runs, people get 4 free tacos with the purchase of large drink the next day.

I guess that would be impossible in SF.

silver lining angle: we scored (more than once), pablo continued his tear, lewis hit, nate hit, sanchez pitched terribly but made it to the fifth, and the bullpen remained solid. add a single big bat and this becomes a very scary team. it sounds like we are all open to some fairly radical solutions to that effect.

nitpicky overreaction of the night:

wtf, is anyone scouting opponents?

From SFgate game wrap:
In response to Theriot’s homerun, “I don’t go out there thinking I have to get this guy out,” Sanchez said. “I didn’t know he was that hot. For a small guy, I thought he was going to be a groundball or flyball.”

Theriot was 5 for his last 14 coming in, with a triple and 2 homers, and nobody thought to pass along the note “hey Dirty, this guy’s actually swinging the bat well”? Especially when the guy behind him was hitting .115 at the time?
