How about Sanchez for Kotchman?

It's perfect. The Giants can finally get the power bat they need at 1B. If they trade the 26-year old left-hander for Casey Kotchman, it'll be perfect. Atlanta doesn't have the best starting pitching. Sanchez can provide a solid 4th/5th starter on a staff that already features Jair Jurgens, Kenshin Kawakami and Javier Vazquez (another fellow Puerto Rican).

Now, on the other side of the deal, the Giants get Casey Kotchman (also 26). What I like about Kotchman is that he's got the tools to be great. He's fairly young as it is, he HARDLY EVER strikes out and tends to put the ball in play when needed, he's a good defender, and he can hit for power. What more can we ask for? After this season he's a free agent anyway. Before the 2009 season, he signed a 2.885 million dollar tender to stay with Atlanta. Now that, ladies and gentlemen, is a bargain. If the Giants can somehow get a hold of this guy (if the Braves ask for more than Sanchez, I'd add Ishikawa/Frandsen/Bowker/Rohlinger/a minor league pitching prospect/etc.

Bottom line is, Kotchman can be a Giant. I hope Brian Sabean's exploring this possibility.

Doesnt make much sense for either team. Kotchman isnt really much of a power bat, plus it just creates a hole on each team. The Braves have Hudson on the DL and the stud Hanson who should be up by the end of this season. I couldnt imagine either team really saying yes to this trade. This move wouldnt make the Giants contenders anyway.

Casey Kotchman is fairly underwhelming. Of course, so is Ishikawa.

I think it’s: what you said + overreaction based on poorly thought out preconception + the superficially hilarious nature of caps lock and internet-meme spelling errors.

I am welcome to another interpretation, though.

I think it usually features

the Giant’s ability horribly overvalued, and both the new players’ and opposing GM horribly undervalued.

This particular post mixes the elements in newv ways, overvaluing Kotchman and undervaluing Sanchez. I’’ll make it my GINATS BRASS star of the week.

ARGUMENTUM AD CAPSLOCK is a big part of it to me. It’s basically bawwwwwwwwwwwing tailored to the tired Giants-related trade memes. Bawwwwwwing=nonsensical bitching about something that cannot be easily fixed.

I’d rather give more of a look to Ishikawa before I trade for someone similar. Bochy would rather look at Uribe though.

Casey Kotchman has 35 career HRs in 1460 at bats. He could hardly be described as “a power bat.” Just because Ishikawa is terrible doesn’t mean we need to start grading other 1Bs on a curve.

by AmorVincitOmnia on Jun 1, 2009 9:19 PM PDT up reply actions

you must be thinking of a different Nick Johnson

Nick Johnson: career wOBA: .372
Casey Kochman: best single season wOBA: .362

Kochman is 5 years younger, though.

Atlanta really needs OF help. They would more likely be interested in Winn or Rowand. And no, they won’t trade Heyward for Rowand.

Also, I would like to see this trade, even if we eat some Rowand salary.

I would not make the proposed trade

<I would really like to see Ishikawa get a prolonged chance. Although people right-off Uribe as if he was old, (he is not), we know what Uribe can do, we really don’t know what Ishikawa can do given a full seaon. I would rather see Pablo at third, and Ishi at first with Uribe getting an occasional start at 3rd, ss, or second. Even Texeira started off the season very slowly, but playing everyday, he got on a hot streak. Such a streak has not been allowed to occur with Travis, because he just does not play enough. In the minors he was a streaky player and could get on a hot streak for a while. Would like to see it. He certainly has enough power to have hit a lot more than one homer so far.

by bradleybear on Jun 2, 2009 10:44 AM PDT reply actions

Absolutely not

I saw him when I was in Atlanta in May, I saw him here at PacBelle. Useless. Do not believe the hype. And he is without power.

Don't believe everything you think.
