by wilriv21 on May 27, 2009 9:54 PM PDT up reply actions

Let me put it this way: if you’re waiting for a pitch you can drive, you’re not swinging at the pitches you can’t. Therefore, more pitches.

My Dave Righetti is better than your Dave Righetti.

My Dave Righetti is better than your Dave Righetti.

by howtheyscored on May 27, 2009 9:56 PM PDT up reply actions

Okay. Of course you’re going to swing if you get your pitch. But you’re not going to get it that often. Which is why you learn how to work counts and take pitches and make at bats go long. The longer your at bat goes, the better the chance is that you get your pitch.

And at the same time, you make the pitcher work harder.

My Dave Righetti is better than your Dave Righetti.

by howtheyscored on May 27, 2009 9:58 PM PDT up reply actions

You go up there with a plan based on the situation. When I played softball I waited for my pitch did not need to see pitch after pitch if the pitcher put it in my zone i hacked.

the problem is if you go up without a plan based on the situation or worse no plan (see Pablo Sandoval). If I do not get my pitch I wait. Unless two strikes. Then I must hack at the next strike,

by wilriv21 on May 27, 2009 9:58 PM PDT up reply actions

More often than not, it takes significantly more than two pitches to get the one you can drive.

My Dave Righetti is better than your Dave Righetti.
