Mark Your Calendars: McC Night at the Yard will be Monday July 27
We've settled on the evening of Monday July 27th as the date for this year's big event.
Already scheduled to appear:
- Grant
- Howie
- Natto
- Walrus
- The Mayor of 311
- Dancing Goofus
I know this date won't be great for everyone, but it works for the above-mentioned people and that had to be the starting point. In addition, it's a Monday game vs. The Pirates, so tickets should be readily available.
For those who are new, our night at the yard consists of meeting up at Zeke's before the game, then heading to the yard where we occupy various seats and root for the Home 9.
Details will be filled in as the date draws closer, but mark your calendars now.

Well, I know a few of the people have season tickets, and last year Goofus’ and the Mayor’s seats were used along with a few others sitting around the park.

Oh for crying out loud, Boozer
You complained about this last year and I tried to preemptively addressed this in the original post. Let me be more clear:
- I plan this event every year and donate my tickets to members
- I have tickets to a limited number of games and weekend games are reserved for my family.
- Finding a game/date that works for Grant, The Mayor, myself and the other mods isn’t easy
- The date is what it is
I’m really sorry we didn’t schedule everything around you, but griping and whining isn’t going to change anything.

Tickets
We’re still trying to coordinate/confirm some of the tickets details.
Between my four and Mayor’s 2, we have six confirmed. I’m nearly certain I’m getting some more from a reliable source and kitspool is working his angle as mentioned above.
Once we know for sure how many we have, we’ll get more details figured out.
My adopted Giant: "Raptor Jesus" Guzman
For a case like this, would it be feasible to contact the Giants directly and let them know there is a large(ish) group coming? From reading over the thread it seems there could be quite a few.
For instance say that RSVP needs to be placed by June 30th, paypal $$, whatever. Then buy a large group of tickets together. Or is it just a pregame meetup and then disperse throughout the ballpark with laptops to chat in the GDT. :p
Oh, and I am hoping I can make it.
by positiveuphemism on Jun 2, 2009 11:21 AM PDT up reply actions
As in the past, it’s pretty much “meetup and then disperse” with a fair degree of coordination. Between my usual tickets, the tickets Kitspool is scoring and the extra tickets I’m scoring, we’ll have about 13 tickets in the same general vicinity. In addition, The Mayor has his two seats. It might seem like “playing favroites”, but the seats we have will be prioritized to people known personally.
Getting one big block would be fun, but it would also have drawbacks:
- The seats wouldn’t be as good as what Kitspool and I are rounding up, nor would they take advantage of what we’ve already we’ve gathered
- The Mayor and I are donating our tickets and the extra tickets Kitspool and I are getting are gratis, so we’re trying to make the game free for as many as possible. Getting a block would be more expensive for everyone.
- Someone would have to deal with all that collecting money and purchasing tickets hassle. Having seen all the effort Brute had to put into it., I’m not all that enthused about taking that on.
Others might have extra tickets. in addition, a Monday game vs. The Pirates should mean tickets can be purchased at Face Value or less.
My adopted Giant: "Raptor Jesus" Guzman
Makes sense. Thank you for the explanation. I’ve ignored these meetups so far as I was a bit far away to attend but now that I am back in The City I like the prospect of puttings voices to words and faces to names.

Because, you know, in the famous Dancing Goofus video, there is a LLCC sitting about 2 seats to my right (who completely ignored me after Goofus’s dancing, as chronicled previously). Mayors are famously big fans of large lung capacity. (See Newsom and Villaraigosa, e.g.)
