also this
The same source who shot down the Cain rumor told me the Giants have no interest in Holliday, given his struggles away from Coors Field in the past, his struggles overall since last summer and his agent being Scott Boras.

For some reason, I just find that last reason hilarious.

I think it makes sense here. It’s one thing to talk to Boras after the season, but you can’t trade for a Boras client in his walk year because you know he always wants his player on the open market. He’s even going to turn down a huge offer, thinking he might be able to find an even bigger sucker in the offseason. Good news about Cain though.

Does this mean the Giants will eventually dangle Johnson?

They are talking up Giants trade opportunities on MLBtraderumors.
would the Marlins accept Sanchez and Burris for Uggla? I’d do that trade

Tempting
A Sanchez and Burris trade for Uggla would be tempting, but I don’t think I would make it. Sanchez and particularly Burriss are younger than Uggla, and while Dan clearly has proven himself more than Jonathan, I think Sanchez actually has the higher ceiling.
I looked at Uggla’s hitting chart for this season. There was good news and bad news — all in the same news.
The good news was that since Dan is a sharp pull hitter, he likely wouldn’t have lost more than one of his eight home runs this season to AT&T’s dimensions — and quite possibly none at all. The bad news is that because he is such a pronounced hitter and it’s so tough to hit it out to the right side at AT&T, I would think that opposing pitchers would pound the outside corner on him, quite possibly frustrating him and adding to his already high strikeout rate.
Uggla’s fielding is bad enough that there is talk of moving him to third base, and he’s hitting only .205 this season. On the positive side, he has consistently shown 30 home run power, which is something the present Giants can only dream of. Also, Dan seems to be getting better and better at taking a walk, piling up 26 of them in 151 at bats this year.
Man, that is tempting. But I think I would resist. The future isn’t this year — it’s next decade. Uggla isn’t old, but he almost certainly won’t be around by the end of that decade. Sanchez and Burriss could still be contributors at that point.
Jonathan Sanchez’s potential is what would keep me from making that deal. Who knows if he will reach it. But if he does, the trade could look very bad for many years to come.

I wouldn’t make the trade either, but only because of that batting average. I know it’s bound to go up, but he’ll probably end the season around .250, and I’d rather hold on to Sanchez for a bit longer and see what we can get for him closer to the deadline. 8 HR is nice, but it’s not enough to make up for a .200 avg

I think it's more important
what his batting average would be with the Giants.

His SecA and IsoP are all in line with what he normally does… his BABIP is only .217. I wouldn’t make any decisions based on his current batting average.

I'm just going on a gut feeling...
But I really, really don’t think Sanchez is ever going to be much more than an Oliver Perez type of player.
You can bring up many of Uggla’s negatives, but Sanchez’s negatives are a bit more cause of an alarm… Particularly how tired he gets late in the season and games, and how easily destructible he is in games.

I’m starting to think what we see in Sanchez now is what we are going to get.
Good starts and bad starts, often in the same start.

I'm Sanchez's biggest fan
And I might just trade him for Uggla.

Uggla has twice been an above average fielder according to his metrics….
I think if anything he’s underrated defensively. He’s nowhere near as bad as Ray Durham or Jeff Kent. Just ask the fielding bible.
As for Sanchez, I really don’t get how anyone can continue to be really high on him. Sure he has good stuff, but he has a career ERA over 5, and he simply is too inconsistent and walks too many batters per start to make me think he will ever be that good. Oliver Perez lite if you will, let’s face it I would be shocked if Sanchez ever put up a season like Perez did that one year in Pittsburgh. If we were able to get Uggla for Sanchez the Giants HAVE to pull the trigger because they’re never going to get anything better for Sanchez.

I don’t think the Marlins would do that trade (I certainly wouldn’t do it if I were them). Sanchez is unproven as a starter and is a lot less valuable if he has to be a reliever, and Burriss is pretty much worthless. If this trade were to happen (which it won’t as it only exists as an internet rumor) I would be very happy with it.

I think Sanchez has value as a reliever. He has a Mike Gonzalez like quality to him.

He would certainly have some value as a reliever. But if I were the Marlins, I wouldn’t even consider a Mike Gonzalez for Uggla trade

In the short term I agree.
But Burriss is still young enough he could be a speedy middle infielder type with a good glove. We see spurt of OBP north OBP 360 from him if he can make that more frequent he becomes a nice little team controlled piece. So I guess we disagree there.
