Sickels: MadBum top lefty in minors and > Price?
Also, how close is Crawford to passing AnVil on the list of top Giants prospects? Yes, small sample size, but I'm tempted to go (1) Madbum, (2) Posey, (3) Crawford, (4) Villalona, and (5) Alderson (doesn't have swing through stuff!?!?!?!?!?)
This isn't meant to be a slight to Villalona or Alderson. I'm actually a bit higher on both of them now than I was last year. That being said, I'm going all Fox Mulder on Crawford right now.

Well, Price is 4 years older and hasn’t had a great year so far. His walk rate is ridiculously high this year and hasn’t dominated in any of his starts except his last.

I’m going all Fox Mulder on Crawford right now.
Now, I watched the X-Files but I’m not sure what this means.

When comparing Crawford and Villalona, keep in mind that Crawford is about 3 1/2 years older.
I would probably go with Bumgarner over Price right now. As pointed out above, Price isn’t having a great year in AAA. Wieters’s season, while hardly bad, is having a disappointing year at AAA, too. MLEs of .239 / .313 / .427. That’s down about 100 points of OPS from his MLEs last year.
We hold these truths to be self-evident, that pie > cake, that Bochy is endowed by his creator with certain undeniable traits, that among these are veteran man-love, a gigantic skull, and the pursuit of the double switch.
Adopted Giant: Fred Lewis, who can still draw a walk.

sure… a lot of my opinion is based on the Crawford hopefully being able to stay at SS.

? His being able to stick at SS isn’t really in question: he can. The bat still is in question, to some extent. He has certainly looked good so far, but there are all kinds of possible routes of failure which have some real likelihood of happening with him. It is way to early to be that giddy.
The k’s are really telling us something with him: either he’ll be a high k, high power( for a SS) player if he reaches his MLB potential, or he could be a player whose k rate moves to unacceptable levels making him a fringe mlb/aaaa player. Much depends on how the k’s are happening to him, and we don’t know much as far as that goes, yet (he’ll be okay if he makes adjustments pitch to pitch, but if the k’s mean he has serious holes or pitch weaknesses, it won’t go well for him).

well, I don’t think we can say with 100% certainty, but yea… I like him a lot because it looks like he can stick there.

At the time he was drafted scouts said he was ready to play SS in the MLB, so I’d say he can stick.

there’s no way to quantify this, but I view Wieters and Price as being disappointed about not making the big club out of spring training and just biding their time in AAA while awaiting their callup. I viewed TimA’s lack of promotion to AA to start the season as the same situation. After a few meh starts, he turned it on and is so far doing well in AA.
I think Price and Wieters are already coming out of their funk, so I’m not terribly worried about them. They’re still the top pitching and hitting prospects in the minors, despite his hohum numbers so far.

Wieters also had nagging injuries to start the season, he’s hit well so far in May.

so you view his lack of ability to control the weather as failure?

Price is more proof of what a crapshoot projecting prospects is. Just cause a guy domintated college and the minor leagues for a couple years doesn’t mean he is going to be a HOFr. Hopefully we get lucky and have a couple of them in our system though

the road to MLB is littered with prospects that become suspect

The prevailing thought I’ve heard about Price is that maybe he struggled early on because of the letdown of not making the Rays out of spring, but that he’s still the same guy who blew away people in the playoffs last year.

Alderson...
…is anyone else wondering if he might be out of the Chris Young mold? And I don’t mean he can play centerfield.
Don't play a dangerous game.

His secondary stuff is way better than Young’s.

No
