Matt Cain is better then you

Was just curious to see how many people saw that graphic from last night's game that Cain has the WORST career run support in the entire ML's of any pitcher with 100+ career starts. Thought that was a pretty telling stat, and seemed about right when like 40 % of his career starts the Giants haven't even mustered more then 1 run or so. It just goes to show how overrated the whole Win stat is for pitchers when some really good pitchers can get so few wins, and guys with 5.50 ERA's can win 14 games a year on some teams. I just thought this should be pointed out. Also, are there any pitcher value stats that take into account things like that?

Matt Cain is better. Then you.

In addition to being Pedro Feliz, we’ll all be better than Matt Cain!

No, we’re all worse than Matt Cain. On the list of goodness, he’s better, then me (or us), then some third party is worse than Matt and the McCoven.

Third best batter too?

Isn’t he now tied with Fred Lewis in RBI? Sadly I think him and Lincecum might be better hitting with RISP then some of our regulars.

Don't worry.

RBI’s mean as much for hitters as wins do for pitchers.

I, too, was thinking last night that if you had to make a list of the best 8 hitters on the team, Matt Cain just might make that list. Clearly Pablo and Bengie would be near the top. Fred, Nate. Hmm. Yeah, pretty definitely in the top eight.

Speaking of last nights game, do you guys think it kills Jon Miller to have to work with Joe Morgan and Steve Phillips? I swear I heard maybe, maybe 5 minutes of total game calling, and 3 hours of David Wright, and Carlos Beltran crap. And the 5 mins of game calling is all that JM and SP would allow Jon Miller to say.

It was a really uncomfortable broadcast, that’s for sure. They couldn’t agree on anything, Joe Morgan called Matt Cain a sinkerball pitcher for god’s sake (and for our sake too?), and that whole argument about ‘leadership’ for the Mets was so asinine and worthless that I wanted to throw a shoe at the tv.

Cain hasn't pitched that well this year

He’s basically been Zito from the last 2 years with better luck. But the good news is it’s only May and he has shown a history of improving his K/BB as the year goes along.
