A's catcher Kurt Suzuki and his wife, Renee, are raising funds for Jon Wilhite, his former college teammate who was injured in the car crash that killed Angels pitcher Nick Adenhart and two others on April 9.

This part made me shiver: "The funds raised by the Suzuki's will help pay for Wilhite's rehabilitation costs after recovering from injuries that included an operation on April 15 to reattach his skull and spinal column after a rare separation."

REATTACH HIS SKULL??? /shudder

i think it’s called internal decapitation, i’m pretty sure it’s rare that people survive it. i remember reading about a woman in a car accident who survived it a couple years ago.

I looked it up on Wikipedia and it says it’s what happens in hanging deaths, a dislocation of the first cervical verterbra and the occipital (Sp?) bone at the base of the skull. I went D: when I read it.

I hope Wilhite recovers. Good for Suzuki for helping his friend in need.
