Yes, but he had an 84 OPS+ last year, and Burriss had an 81 OPS+ himself last year. Why spend the money? So Boulderhead can ensure that yet another veteran never leaves the lineup?
This is assuming Burriss actually can play SS, BTW. Renteria may not have the range he used to, but if Burriss doesn’t project as someone who can stick at SS, then it makes sense not to play him there.

I still would rather Burriss be playing SS every day in Fresno but I can live with this set up. I guess. 2 years is still not a big commitment and he is an improvement over what we got last year (I’m not sure how I feel about Burriss playing SS AT this moment.)

It’s just that most people think Godwin’s Law is that the first person to bring Hitler into an argument automatically loses. It doesn’t.

Into to the Godwin's Law FAQ
One of the most famous pieces of Usenet trivia out there is “if you mention
Hitler or Nazis in a post, you’ve automatically ended whatever discussion
you were taking part in”. Known as Godwin’s Law, this rule of Usenet has a
long and sordid history on the network – and is absolutely wrong. This FAQ
is an attempt to set straight as much of the history and meaning of Godwin’s
Law as possible, and hopefully encourage users to invoke it a bit more
sparingly. Of course, knowing Usenet, it won’t do an ounce of good…
It’s a pet peeve of mine.
