MLB realy needs to automate Balls and stirkes. Let teh ump over ride it if he thinks its wrong but he then would need realize it will be reviewed. There are still plenty of things an Ump needs keep track of.

The strike zone varies not only batter to batter, but pitch to pitch for the same batter, depending on how he crouches (not precisely the same each pitch). It is calibrated at the moment the batter is ready to hit, generally recognized by umpires as when he loads up his back leg. THEN you do the calculation of midpoint between top of pants and shoulders. Then, of course, it is a 5-sided 3-dimensional space over the plate, and there is no way to automate that measurement perfectly except possibly Skydome & HHHMetrodome.
