Why I Love Matt Cain, Part Eleventy

He just pitched a hell of a great game, got the first win by a Giants starter all year, and I’d bet dollars to donuts that all gives a crap about right now is Joe Martinez.

I hope Joe is okay. I bet we’ll see him back soon. I concussed myself unconscious last summer in a bicycle crash, and after an MRI and overnight observation I was pretty much good to go (except for my broken elbow and scraped up face/brow.) He was pitching great and I’m sure we’ll be seeing a lot more of Joe Martinez.

Cain looked great, until he lost the zone in the 7th, but he found it again and got out of the inning. He was really snapping off his curve (and sneaking them in for 1st strikes) and his fast ball was live and targeted. He really pitched well considering how many times the leadoff guy got on base. At least he didn’t walk the pitcher to lead off an inning. Parra must have been getting pointers from Cy Young Winner™ Zito.

It seemed like Randy Winn and Fred Lewis were never out. Nice plays by both in the outfield – covering some ground, and not breaking the wrong way. And Mouthpiece Panda looked pretty good at Third today.

First off. I got home just in time for the top of the ninth, was listening to the game in the car on the way home. Turned on the tv, and the first batter I saw Joey face was Cameron. I stopped what I was doing and just sat there for a bit until they took him off the field.

Thoughts are with him for a speedy recovery, they are saying its a concussion and they are keeping him overnight for observation. Can’t wait for him to be back in the Orange and Black.

Secondly, Yay Cain wins! I hope this is the start of many for the season.
