WTF
This is awful.

That's a damn shame
He signed a ball at spring training last year and he was extremely likeable.
sad day.
Mischievously implosive purple pitching staff.

No game tonight
Very sad story. Watched the kid pitch last night and woke up this morning to this news.
Unbelievable.
Uh, this is hard to swallow right now. Someone ran a red, striking his car. Terrible, terrible news…
RIP
I assume
you are speaking of the driver who caused the wreck.

I like to think that someday, everyone will collectively wake up one morning and realize that drunk driving is stupid and selfish, but I’m not comfortable giving people that much credit

Making booze illegal wouldn’t help matters.
Matt Cain: He'll save children, but not the Dodger children.
PABLO SANDOVAL AM STEAL DEATH, DESTROYER OF WORLDS.
I was actually going the other way with that. I mean I’ve never heard of someone smoking pot and then getting into a fatal hit and run accident…
…sure maybe it happens but not like all the deaths/injuries/damages done by drunk drivers.
Wait, now I’m confused

my experience is that they pose almost as much a threat on the road than do drunk drivers. south park would agree with me!

the article below refutes this, of course.

what in the hell? I can’t believe this is true.

Is he the first active Major Leaguer to die since Darryl Kile? I can’t remember any others since.
Really, really sad.

Josh Hancock (also a Cardinal) died a few years ago in another car accident.

Somehow, I’d completely forgotten about Cory Lidle. What a bizarre story that was.

To call Hancock's death a car "accident"...
… is a little misleading.
Josh Hancock was driving fast, hammered (0.16 BAC), and either texting or talking on the phone at the same time as he slammed into a flatbed tow truck going nearly 70 on the side of a Missouri freeway. (Never mind the pot and pipe the cops found under his seat upon investigation; drugs were not in his system upon death.)
Not to speak poor of the dead, but Hancock did it to himself. Thank goodness only his life was taken and not some poor tow truck driver trying to do his job late at night
Wow, this is really sad..especially since the Giants have so many good young pitchers of their own…

Baseball is a lot like life. The line drives are caught, the squibbles go for base hits. It's an unfair game. -Rod Kanehl. Adopted brother of Jason Jarvis
I just realized he’s exactly eight days younger than my sister. That freaked me out a little.

He’s like two weeks older than my brother. If someone had to call me up and tell me my baby brother was dead I’d lose my damn mind.
This is so sad.

I wanted to say thanks for your comments on the Angels Blog. It brings a ray of light to a pitch black day to see everyone putting aside baseball concerns for what matters in this kind of situation.

Pretty Shitty. It happened on the intersection of Orangethorpe and Lemon St.. This is very near a off ramp for a freeway. I go to my local Food4Less about 1/2 mile down the street from there. MAP

I like this article
For some reason, people don’t seem to make a big deal out of drunk driving. Unless somebody is killed, these kinds of stories don’t get the attention they deserve. ARod gets caught taking steroids and the sports world flips upside down… An athlete gets pulled over for DUI, and it gets a mere fraction of media coverage. It’s like people accept drunk driving as a reality, and this is exactly why the problem doesn’t get fixed.
