Good fastball. Wicked slider. Plus control

Starting pitchers with silent letters in their names

Results be damned, Johnson looked very good. I mean, his pitches did, at least. And though I feel bad about how he lost the game, you can't say that we didn't deserve this one.

Can I count one of the Rs in Zito’s name as silent so I can hate him?

Hey, remember when people said Dave Roberts was still a good player, just not the right fit for the Giants?

I guess his presence on my tv right now disproves that.

In the serious plus side. Johnson looked amazing tonight. If he can pitch that way consistantly he will be celebrating 300 a lot sooner then most people would have thought.

He really did. He doesn’t need to throw a billion MPH anymore. His slider is still devastating.

There were 2 outs

so there wouldn’t have been a double play no matter what.

And, as a Brewers fan, I will tell you with completely sincerity that Johnson did look fantastic out there. Apart from the couple of homers, he was just mowing guys down left and right—it was a pleasure to watch, if I pretended he was doing it to a different team :-p. You guys are lucky to get to watch him take the mound every 5th day.

He then repeats he ran into it 4 more times. I am now drunk.

What Rowand drinking game do you play? Diving at unneccessary times? GAMER K’s?

I wish our hitters would just run into it more.

That 2005 box score

The one where Hennessey goes deep and pitches a shutout? Man, was that a sorry lineup. Grissom would play in 2 more games before being released and eventually taking the hint that his career was over.

At least the Giants had the sense to release this year’s Grissom (Dave Roberts) before the season.

by ho-hum baby on Apr 9, 2009 12:02 AM PDT reply actions

Wicked stuff

I am looking forward to this year. Even though Lincecum had control issues and Johnson got hammered by a pitcher, both of their “stuff” was great. Once they get settled into the season, watch out. Prince Fielder didnt even realize he was up to bat when he was facing Johnson. I am looking forward to this year after all.

Thin Tim?

So in one blog I just rebutted a claim that Lincecum is looking extra skinny. Then I saw the photo above, and I’m thinking there may be something to it.

His chin/jaw line is reminiscent of those found in another T.L. and he’s also swimming in that jacket, but perhaps he was wearing Bengie’s as a tribute to his battery mate?

I know he’s battled the flu bug most of the spring, and I’m also taking one picture too literally. Your thoughts?

Agree. Kind of a reverse of last year. The Enchanter could not find it on Tuesday, but the velocity was good. RJ throws very well, but makes one mistake ( to a pitcher fer christsakes) and pays for it with a loss. The ’pen, with the exception of Hinshaw has looked very good.

You are correct sir. I know that Cameron averages about 20 HR a year, but I have to admit that one surprised me. A damp night in the City, and to left center field ? I didn’t count that as a mistake pitch. Cameron just beat him.

2. only looks bad after the pitcher “ran into” the pitch

Hennessey could rake

I don’t understand why teams don’t give guys like him more chances to pull a Rick Ankiel. He got his shot at pitching, discovered he didn’t have it to make it in the majors, now why not give hitting a shot? I believe he played some SS in college…I guess the biggest issue with Hennessey would be age, he is pretty old already. If Lowry isn’t back soon he’d be someone it seems might be worthwhile to let him try to hit his way back to the majors.
