TRUE FACT

Merkins were often used by prostitutes in Elizabethan times to hide the signs of venereal disease.

I’m still trying to figure out how this neck thing works…

My Dave Righetti is better than your Dave Righetti.

not that there's anything wrong with that

I think it’s reasonable to mention it when linking to an information source known for dubious veracity.

Surely You Are Not Biased Enough To Think MSNBC Is Somehow Not Of Equal Dubious Veracity!

In today’s world you have to understand the biases of the Sources you get your news from. Sources without biases simply no longer exist. It is a very bad idea to only listen to sources that share your biases as this is the one way to make sure you never learn anything.

I applaud you RainMan!

You probably know it as MYANMAR, but it will always be BURMA to me!

I never mentioned MSNBC… curious how you picked them.
You seem to have jumped to the concusion that:
a) I myself am ‘liberal’. Depending on your own political bias, that may be true. I’m certainly to the right of the Anarcho-communists I used to drink stolen beer with at the squatter rallies in the old Hamms brewery (they consider me a proto-fascist sellout conformist).
b) that I only read/watch ‘liberal’ media. Another assumption based on slim evidence and yet not slim enough to stop you from offering unasked-for advice (I’ve been doing just that for years, but Fox news has problems with accuracy as well as bias).
My counter example for dodgy sources would have been the Bay Guardian, as MSNBC has only recently been exploiting the market for a less Republican news bias, and still has a way to go before being considered reliably lefty.
Because I am lazy, not interested in changing your opinion and not willing to do the research, I will now quote an unnamed source who tells me ‘those who rely principally on Fox News have been shown to be weak in their basic factual knowledge of current events.’

“Sources without biases simply no longer exist.”

You don’t know a lot about the history of news, do you?

PRO TIP: sources without biases never existed. For much of he history of the media, the biases were a lot more extreme and outfront than they generally are today. Witness: William Randolph Hearst and the Spanish-American War.

Hearst was relatively unbiased, by the standards of the time.

Heck, he represents the first generation of newspapers that weren’t bankrolled by political parties or other interest groups. The “news” (whatever form it takes) has basically been a mouthpiece for the powerful and wealthy forever. Arguably, the sheen of objectivity is more dangerous than brazen and shameless bias, particularly in a system with only a handful of mainstream information outlets.

There are examples of bigger biases than Hearst’s, yeah, but one of his biases helped drag the country in war, so the consequences were pretty big.

I wouldn’t say it’s known for that, except maybe among hardcore leftists, who I’d guess don’t watch the network or read its website all that much, if at all. I can’t really think of an example of their hard news reporting to be of questionable veracity. I’m sure they make mistakes, but so do all the big news outlets.

I just find it funny that someone would add that disclaimer as if it was some mark of shame. You never get that with, say the NY Times articles (rarely, if at all) posted around here. At least, there, we know they had at least one journalist completing fabricating news.

Define ‘hardcore leftists’… I might say the only people who believe Fox is credible are ‘quasi fascists’. But both of those are terms whose emotional impact is greater than their actual meaning, and their intent is simply to disparage an entire swath of people (usually inaccurately).
Won’t be taking the bait on examples of Fox’s inaccuracy – a short time with google is all that’s needed for those who actually care.
