Opening Day

Over the last 6 months I have been in the process of relocating from San Diego, back home to the Bay Area. One of the reasons for the move was to attend Giants home games rather than watch games at Petco amongst a fairweather, low baseball IQ group of people. I have posted here for assistance with the job hunt and location hunt, but now I come to the McCoven for a different reason.

One of my hopes was to attend Opening Day. I have tickets to "Opening Night" (Since when do they make a big deal about that?). I will be solo for Opening Day and was just wondering if anyone here had a ticket they would like to sell or something to Opening Day. If not, is there a super awesome place in the city I should watch the game at?

Any additional Opening Day advice would also be welcome.

On Opening Night you get to see them present Tim with his Cy Young award, and it’s Randy Johnson’s debut.

I have..

I’ve also been on Craigslist. So I shouldnt ask here? Didnt see anything great on there, thought there might be someone around here that I could help out. Solo tickets are probably hard to get rid of.

You should have asked a couple days ago

Tickets were still on sale direct from the Giants. It’s gone now (I just checked). If you don’t want to buy it from Stub Hub, show up at the park early and watch part of the game at the “Knot-Hole Gang” area. By the time the game begins (it’s likely to be gloomy and maybe wet), you could get a really cheap ticket from one of the scalpers who wants to get rid of the ticket.

70% Chance of Rain

you should be able to find a deal on Craigslist or Stubhub
Don’t pay more than face/ box office price
You can probably get you best deals from Craigslist.

If forced to buy off the street, be careful these guys are worse than used car salesmen
Look at the seat map before you ever talk to them.
Know what you want.
Offer them less than they are asking
You dont get it, walk away…. there are plenty other scalpers and they all have
about the same (if not exactly the same thanks to Cell Phone/ Razor Scooters) tickets

And have EXACT change, getting change from a street scalper is like pulling teeth
Don’t show them ANY more money than you are willing to spend, or then will try to milk you…
“ALL I HAVE is $40 (or whatever)” and DON’T BUDGE

at least thats my experience

with the potential for the rain i think this will be my only option. I bought from a scalper outside coors field once, and it was actually a very pleasant experience. I thought for sure the tickets would get rejected at the gate, or the tickets were covered in herpe juice, but not the case.

never been burned by bad tickets from a street scalper
if i do buy on the street, i buy from pros
this is their “job” they cant afford to make enemies

That is the key to buying from a scalper outside AT&T, someone is always out there selling. You know probably won’t be burned.

Opening Day Checklist:

tickets
coinage for MUNI
ironed $1’s for BART
sunscreen
binoculars
am radio & headphones
mints
gum
aspirin
rain gear?!?!

by Merope on Apr 6, 2009 9:01 AM PDT reply actions

BLESS YOU for adding headphones to the list!

It should be obvious to anyone with a functioning brain stem that it is rude to just play a radio without headphones, just blithely assuming that everyone would want to hear a tinny electronic noise throughout the game and announcing a second behind the action. AAAGH! So many thanks.

“Ironed” cracked me up, by the way.

I sat behind some folks in the bleachers last year who did that. Annoying.

On the plus side, they made fun of F.P.’s Felipe stories.

Hmmm

The giants website has random solo seats available but they are all field club for $135. Don’t know if I want to spend that much on a game that might get rained out.
