You know it’s crazy world when ESPN seems to be more optimistic about the Giants than we are.

Jim Caple really, really likes our chances, apparently.
Randy Johnson, Cy Young winner? In a rotation with Cain and Lincecum? now that WOULD be scary. If we got to the playoffs with our team in that scenario… i mean yeesh, throwing out those three guys, we’d have a chance against just about anybody.

If this team plays 500 ball the first couple weeks does he become our prophet mascot for this season?

If we got into the playoffs, that top 3 rotation could really do some damage

LOL East Coast Bias
Aside from Crazy Jim Caple, who thinks the Twins are winning the World Series, everyone else picked the Red Sox, Yankees, Rays, Cubs, Cards or Mets.

in fairness...
I wouldn’t really count the Cubs or Cards as part of that “East Coast Bias” but yeah… there’s a lot of Yanks-Sox talk. Already.

In fairness, the Sox, Yanks and Rays are the best 3 teams in the AL, and the Cubs are the best in the NL.
To me, the best example of east coast bias was the trial of MLB.TV. They gave you the choice between Cubs vs Yankees and Mets vs Red Sox.

Every year since 2000, the Yankees have failed to win the World Series, and every year, the experts always seem to predict that this’ll be the year the Yankees win the World Series again!!!!! It gets a little tiresome.

What’s up with the amount of Card’s love and Nl West wild cards there!?
I know the outside the Cubs the NL Central is rather weak ( COUGH Astros, * cough Pirates*) but come on that is just going to inflate win totals for the rest for the rest of the division that does not melt down – not necessarily make them good.
I was rather surprised to see the NL West mentioned for Wild card as well. I guess they figure some will join the Padres in the fiery decent to the league basement thus allowing 2 teams in the NL to win over 86 games?

seems reasonable. I think the NL West is pretty unpredictable because of its old guys (RJ, ManRAM) and young players in key roles on each team.

if Carpenter and Wainwright stay healthy, the Cards’ pitching should be good enough to keep pace. And with Pujols in that lineup, they’ll have some offense. I think the Cards are a legitimate darkhorse in the Central— the Cubs are starting to look a bit old and creaky to my eyes.

Yeah but...
picking Carpender for NL CY is ridiculous. He was a really good pitcher in 2006, but c’mon? The dude hasn’t pitched in almost two years. I forget which “expert” picked him, but how often does a guy come back from two full years of injuries and pitches well enough to win the CY? I don’t have stats, but I’m willing to bet rarely or never.

WOW
They must think the rotation can carry a below average offense. Opening day is here. A day when everybody has a chance.
