ASK ROOMSERVICE

I’m laughing at this whole thing but I have to wonder if Mr. Schulman gets shut out by the team as a result. He didn’t say anything classless or tacky like Damon Bruce did, but Wilson might take offense and that could be enough to give Schulman the deep freeze.

what did Damon Bruce say?

by sfgiantsgirl on Apr 27, 2009 3:08 PM PDT up reply actions

A couple years back he made a crass remark about a wet T shirt contest in relation to the Giants/A’s wives softball game. Several of the players took offense and the team implimented a shutdown on him. No member of the team would speak to the press as long as Bruce was in the room. And so it has been ever since.

I don’t get why anyone is thinking Wilson is somehow being particularly classless or some automatic douchebag. His twitter comments are nuts, but so is he; but in an entertaining way. Wilson seems to have a better grasp on when something is said seriously, and when it isn’t, than some here.

If Shulman was concerned about it, he should have told him personally, rather commenting on his own blog, and thereby half speculating that Wilson was out too late and thats why he blew the save. He should be freezed out a bit for this, if not completely iced—temporarily, at least.

And No, 1 blown save does not warrant the kind of pathetic bitch session this whole thread has been.

Adoptive Parent of Francisco Peguero. He can throw, he can run, he can hit(fastballs), and he's Dominican. What else do you need to know?

by haverecords on Apr 27, 2009 3:16 PM PDT reply actions

I do agree with you on the matter that Schulman sort of set himself up for this with his speculation on the blog. Correlation is not causation — if Wilson was out late getting his Scottsdale groove on, that’s not necessarily the reason he blew the save. Conversely, it would be nice if major league baseball players as a general rule didn’t get so butt-hurt by every last thing the newspaper folks wrote about them. It’s been going on forever, but it’s still a pretty immature response to freeze someone out.

"Are we bad? No. But right now, we are." Boulderskull, 4.16.09

by Kitspool on Apr 27, 2009 3:23 PM PDT up reply actions

I don’t think it’s a particularly big deal if he went out or whatever (he did look pretty crappy, but I cant say going out had anything to do with it), but to get on Shulman for publishing something that Brian Wilson himself published (in a hyper-public way) is a bit silly.

Hi, I am Johnny Disaster.

by Johnny Disaster on Apr 27, 2009 5:33 PM PDT up reply actions

If Shulman hadn’t reported it on his own blog, we would have speculated about it anyway.

Anybody on the Giants beat would write about this story if it was dropped in their lap. It’s not as if Shulman was speculating, he was writing about something in the public domain (until Wilson deleted the tweets, anyway).

I heard Wilson on Friday mentioning how he was trying to get Tim Lincecum on Twitter…good luck with that one now, buddy!

This isn’t anything close to a Damon Bruce situation, Schulman’s built relationships with the entire team for close to 20 years now. I bet half the team thinks Wilson and Zito’s whole Twitter deal is stupid and wished they’d shut up about it.
