Why do the patriots and Steelers spend a first round draft pick on them. NT’s need to push the pocket. Also, we’re not a two gapping 3-4 team, we one gap because he run a Phillips 3-4, so the NT does need to pass rush.

Yeah,

I guess I didn’t mean you need “no” pass rush, but I’m not sure Raji would be the most effective way to spend the 14 mil it would cost at 10. I think for the money I’d rather take Brace because it would be a lot cheaper. Chances are that our decision will be made since Raji probably won’t be there.

our pass rush sucked last year because

we had no push up the middle. Our OLB got around the tackles with some consistency but the QB would simply just step up in to his clean pocket. We’re not going to be a dominant defense with out push up the middle.

I don’t think Smith sucks, just that he’s not been a Matt Ryan-franchise-QB-from-Day-One (for a number of reasons, injuries included). Just saying, $42 mil is a lot of money for someone who has never played a down, and who may not be what everyone wants him to be right out the gate.

Adding: $42 mil for a guy who might get injured, etc. is hard to swallow when you don’t have any idea how good he could be; esp. on a team like the Lions with needs beyond just the QB spot. (Hopefully I’m making sense here…)

Yup
But if you're the Lions, you have to start somewhere. Who else is worth the money you HAVE to pay? You need a good QB to be any good. If they're smart they'll give him a little time on the bench first, and not throw him right into a crappy team so he can fail right away.

yeah but

It’s the highest risk / highest reward. If you draft a Tackle and he sucks, you stash him at RT and he’ll probably be at least passable. Other positions you can hide if they’re not great, and they’ll at least contribute SOMETHING, but not a QB.

He was pretty much “meh” all around. He was a good returner, not great, and never really a threat to break one all the way, but he pretty much always got you to the 30 with the occasional 50-60 yarder.

As a RB, he was pretty ok, but really not a guy you’d be happy with as your #1.

Walker is fun to watch, though he hasn’t really had that much success as a returner. I like him as a back up TE and in 2 TE sets though. Clayton deserves a shot to be the back up RB IMO, though I really like Robinson as the 3rd down back.
