4/22 San Jose Giants
Here are some pictures from the game, hope you enjoy.
MadBum warming up
AnVil has his game face on. Edwin Quirarte works on his wad of gum.
More warm-up throws for MadBum
Actual game throw by MadBum. He was working in the 92-94 range today I thought. Fooled some batters good with offspeed stuff as well.
Darren Ford steals 2nd. He's not too impressive with the bat, and kind of impressive in the field. Not sure where his future really is.
I thought I got a picture of Kieschnick's swing to hit the homer but looks like I didn't. But the little blue area inside the radiation is where his homer hit on the scoreboard. Quite a shot.
TWO HANDS! Thomas Neal catches a fly ball in left.
And now, a groundball to Gillaspie, who throws to AnVil for the out.
Well, at least Ford looks like he can hit.
Nick Noonan takes the feed from Brandon Crawford and later throws to first to get the double play.
Victor Frankenstein-esque stalker shot of GFNLIS and his family. The cute daughter was out in full force today....
I heard she made a Dodger earlier in the day too. She can yell GO GIANTS pretty well but doesn't respect Rush....
Apparently she was surprised at Zito's pitching in the big game...
I'm pretty sure this is AnVil, but I'm not sure where the 2 in 29 went...
And to finish up Edwin Quirarte. He was throwing low to mid 90s with some offspeed stuff low to mid 80s. He also threw a pitch that was 89 MPH to strike out a batter that I noticed, a hard slider? I'm not sure what he throws.
All in all a pretty good day. Beautiful weather if not a little warm. And if you click on the pictures some will become bigger. I'm not sure what exactly is happening with the autoformatting, but do the Conor to Angel ground ball and they will get bigger.

Great power
Roger Kieschnick does indeed have great power, but his mechanics appear awkward. He appears to be a gem that needs a lot of polishing.
REALLY good photos!
You photos were excellent and in some cases told great stories in themselves.
The one that most got my attention was the sequence on the ball hit to Conor Gillaspie (#34) with the runner moving from second to third, and with Conor untlimately throwing the batter/runner out at first base. What impressed me was the excellent mechanics of the base umpire, who quickly moved toward third base in order to get an angle should there be a tag play there, yet was out of the way off Conor’s throw and was easily able to pivot for his call at first base.
Notice, too, the fine stretch by the (not yet) fire-hardened AnVil at first base. I had no idea Angel would be as good a fielder as he appears to be.
I also like picture of Nick Noonan taking the throw from Brandon Crawford and preparing to make his double play pivot. He’s getting a lot of heat from the base runner in the picture, so it would appear his pivot was a very good one, allowing him to complete the twin killing.
WTF crowd
looks like a Marlins game
Thanks for sharing Walrus. Did K’s homer break the scoreboard? Or did you add the blue for clarity? That would be an expensive dingerz

Well, I actually thought the crowd was bigger than I expected. It’s a day game for a minor league team, what do you expect. There were still probably about 1250-1500 people there.
His home run actually broke the scoreboard. I added the radiation but the blueness is what the scoreboard actually displayed after being hit.

Kevin Frandsen should be with the big team.
I guess they were all behind the plate?
I thought this was a weekend game, my bad.
The Giantitos must be calling around to see if other teams have an extra jumbotron screen…

great pictures. i’m really liking all the san jose coverage we’re getting this year, lol.
Matt Cain: He'll save children, but not the Dodger children.
PABLO SANDOVAL AM STEAL DEATH, DESTROYER OF WORLDS.
It’s interesting all of the SJ stuff coming in lately. I hope I can keep doing this even if MadBum, T2, and Busty Poser aren’t there. We’re quite lucky to get these players.

they’ll still probably have Kieschnick, Noonan, Villalona and Crawford even if they lose MadBum, T2 and Buster. I know I’ll still be happy to go see those guys.

A bigger fan
I have become a much bigger AnVil fan through actually getting to see him play.
I was on the ground floor bitches! But no seriously, it’s cool that the little Gs are getting so much pub.

I would have gone today if I didn’t have a stupid day job.

I talked to Madison last night
about his transition from North Carolina to here. Very modest, nice kid, great attitude about the game, and he should be a really good major league pitcher
Adopted Giant Darren "Speedy" Ford. Said by Andrew Baggarly to be the fastest minor league player and the best defensive outfielder in the Giants Organization. Now playing for your San Jose Giants.
You're pretty or Quirarte's pretty?
I’m still mad I haven’t seen him throw yet.

I was impressed the most by Quirarte. His 9th inning was dominant.
Good, hard fastball, mixed speeds well, threw a pitch (mentioned already by Walrusman) clocked at 89 that was just devastating, sliding away from the right-handed hitter.
Kieschnick’s HR was awesome. Crawford was hit or miss – his two Ks were ugly and he swung at some pitches that landed a foot or two in front of the plate or at his feet. Walrusman and I both thought what turned out to be his opposite field HR was going to be a double. It was a low liner that we were surprised even cleared the fence. Never realized Neal was such a good athlete. Gillaspie doesn’t impress me much. Villalona and Posey do.
Stayed behind almost 45 minutes after the game to be a “fanboy” for the first time in my life. I got 13 autographs in all, my daughter too on her “Victory” ball that we caught after the game. Among these include Villalona (who doesn’t look as big in person, maybe that’s because I’m fat too now), Noonan (who’s taller than I expected), Kieschnick, Clayton Tanner (very friendly), Mitch Lively (even friendlier), Vlad Frias (also a nice guy), Ford, Wilmin Rodriguez (?), and Craig Clark. Thomas Neal was perhaps the friendliest; we chatted a few minutes about his being a Lakers fan and how he was a three-sport athlete in high school (I remarked to him that I was surprised he was such a good athlete). We were the last to leave and by then hadn’t seen a player for 10 minutes so I suspect MadBum, Posey, and Alderson went out by another exit. It was a blast though, I even got some great pictures with the players.
Noonan. Nooooonan!

Quirarte
Quirarte had a very rough first outing after he signed last year, but since then he has pitched quite well. Despite being a right-handed pitcher, he has been even better against lefty hitters than righties — and has yet to yield an earned run with a lefty hitter at the plate in his brief minor league career.
That looks like a long stretch by AnVil to get the throw from Gills, how is he looking as a first baseman? Those that have been to the games is Kiesh’s power for real?
I can haz homerunz!
I love posts like this...
I also love the 2009 San Jose Giants,
Justin Miller: More ink'd than an octopus on PCP.
Fixed
I also love the 2009 San Jose 2012 San Francisco Giants
Sergio Romo: striking out professional hitters since 2005. And winner of the 2012 NL Fireman of the Year Award!
Vision
Now THAT’S what I call great vision, Lyle! All the players need to do is advance one level per year, and they will achieve your target. In reality, some of them will proceed more quickly than that and by 2012 will be establishing themselves.
Doesn’t the upcoming decade look really good?
Remember too that the Giants have the #6 overall pick in this year’s draft, and they will likely have another fairly high pick in 2010.
Great job, Tusks. I can’t wait to get my ass to a game soon.
My adopted Giant: "Raptor Jesus" Guzman
love the pic of noonan turning the double play…looks like the runner got shot with the baseball…reminiscent of a rohn stark football card
i adopt Les Plack, D.D.S. for the following reasons:
1. greatest name for occupation ever (except maybe lesbian prostitute sharon bottoms)
2. i am hoping for free dental care from my son (if he ever hears of this)
3. the giants need him more than anyone because their smiles are all they've got right now

if that was too obscure a reference, look up rohn stark’s 1990 pro set card and you’ll get the idea
