Savvy Veterans to the Rescue
“I’m as comfortable as I can be,” said Schierholtz, who is 1 for 4. “My swing feels fine. It’s more a timing thing. You want to see more pitches, go deeper in the count.”
Yet he also has to be prepared to swing at the first pitch. As veterans have advised him, it’s often the best one he’ll get.
co-dad of IshikaBOOM w/AfDC.
Ishikawa, let the boy hit against lefties.
I take it the veterans are telling everyone on the roster that.
My Dave Righetti is better than your Dave Righetti.

I think this a fictional player but anyhow….I think a veteran telling a young player to do that is trying to protect their job. They know someone how is better then they are, if they suck, won’t play much.
I find that laughable.
Pitchers are told to jump ahead and get a first pitch strike, and for most pitchers, that’ll be a fastball.
Nothing wrong with looking for a fastball first pitch in the zone, and swinging if you get it. (The key is swinging ONLY if you get it.) Just because you work the count to 2-2 doesn’t mean you know what you’ll get.

Repeatedly told to swing at the first pitch.
We are all Pedro Feliz.

“I know I’m concerned,” Lansford said. "We’ve got to get him in there. The only thing you can do is get in the cage, hit early every series. It’s not just him. We need to get more at-bats for Velez and (Andres) Torres, too.
What? No, you don’t

I’m really looking forward to Bochy being fired.

Proud father of Juan Carlos Perez. Think Albert Pujols at second.
He's not the only one

Giants pitching coach Dave Righetti. "I treat Timmy differently from most pitchers: I leave him alone."

They won’t fire Bochy. The Giants haven’t fired anybody under this current regime. Alou and Le feeble both were removed from their on field jobs for a job in the front office. Dusty’s contract wasn’t renewed.
Ok, if you want to get semantical (not a word, I know) with it. The result, and message, is the same and I’m looking forward to it.

It’s the same idea.
